Description
Doing this exercise quickly to show SDS what the numbers look like with the Dumba/Coyle Wild trade in the team listed here: https://www.capfriendly.com/forums/thread/157163&post_id=536446

This assumes Horton's full cap relief upon LTIR (ignore the semantics for the time being). However signing the players (Matthews, Marner, Kapanen, Dumba...) puts the leafs over the cap prior to the LTIR desgination.

The trade with the Wild leaves the Leafs 3 players short of the pro roster. The Leafs still need two defencemen and a backup goalie. Calling up any of the 3 players available from the Non-Roster puts them over the cap. Not factoring in any other RFAs/UFAs other than what was stated in the previous team.

I didn't really understand the trade that was originally posted. in 2019/20, the leafs have cap space for one of gardiner or nylander, without a trade. with the trade the leafs could keep dumba but not Coyle.

Interesting idea. (I'm a diehard "keep the core" man.) But it looks to me that raising the cap even $500k, to $80M, gives you the room to add 2 bottom -of-the-barrel defensemen (but not promote Liljegren or Sandin) and a back-up goalie ($750). Am I wrong?

This is a great example of how the Leafs are thigh until Marleau come off the book...
They will need to trade or play with a weak Defense the following season (2019-2020) by keeping both Nylander & Marner... losing Gard & Hainsey...
I suggest MTL GM to go for an offer-sheet of 4x8M to Nylander and add pressure on the leafs salary structure.
