Derek Grant is very good on face-offs and his net front presence is very good. He gets in front of the goalie and creates a lot of distraction and he has some touch with his game. He can drop them when needed and at 6'3" he brings a tough element to our lineup and after scoring 12 goals and 12 assists for 24 points in 66 Games with Anaheim we got a bonafide NHL player at the league minimum price. With having Jimmy Hayes at 6'5" who's also scored a good amount of points (highest season total is 35 with the Bruins) and now Derek Grant AND along with 6'3" Riley Sheahan we would have a HUGE 4th line and all the guys can score because Riley put home a career high in 32 last season for our Pens.
You must give Jimmy R some credit for finding Free Agent value with these (BIG one the Ice) value signings. They are all round the same age in Sheahan at 26 and Hayes and Grant at 28.
Value Contracts, Prime Age, Big, Strong, Face-offs, Can Drop Gloves, and all can score. I'd say that's a win for the Penguins PLUS another team will alway be willing to take on a Center if a trade does happen. Imagine if Sheahan, Hayes and Grant start really scoring at a pace with only playing 10 minutes of ice time because then we can possibly make a big move to add another top 9 scoring Winger on the Left Side say Max P???
