Description
OTT is NOT trading from a position of weakness, EK did not sign the contract OTT gave him not because it was not enough money but because he wanted a contract like Tavares, lock out proof, OTT can always offer him that.

As for OTT 1st, it is not guaranteed to be 1st OA, even if, ott ends last its only 18.5% chance and 40% chance for 4th OA. OTT is not finishing bot 5 in 2019.

at 10m per year EK make more money after taxes than Doughty at 11m.

in 2019/2020 almost 14m comes off the books added to the almost 10m already there, planty of cap to sign RFAs with EK at 10m.

JGP is a 25 year old 3rd line C that can score 15+ and can play 2nd C is need be on a good contract, Ceci rounds out the RD with EK 1st RD, johnson 2nd RD.

If Karlson is extended then that package would be for him alone, not with two roster players and a pick

I think evaluation of this deal depends upon evaluation of Karlsson's health. If both teams see him at about 70% and are both equally uncertain about the timetable of his recovery, this looks like a fair trade that could go either way.

ugh what? Tyson Barrie, one of the Avs top D prospects, the sens own 1st rounder and kerfoot?? Are you insane, that is such an over payment. Might want to look at who the names in the package are first.

Terrible trade.

That is such a over payment for Karlsson. Avs are not going to do them any favours in giving them back their own first rounder and give them a good Dman in Barrie, then give them clear young upgrades of Kerfoot and Timmins over Pageau and Ceci.

I would be calling for Sakics head if he made a Dourin level terrible trade like that

Ya I saw them. But Karlson on an extension means Colorado would have the best defenceman in hockey for the next 8 years. Probably only the best for the next 3-4 but still really balauable. He is worth 4 pieces and those pieces should be high end pieces if he has an extension and doesn’t come with Ryan.

I think people forget that Karlson is arguably one of the top 5 valuable players in the NHL if traded , , those top guys would command multiple elite pieces. Plus you still have Rantanan, Jost and few other young guys.

Karlsson would be a great addition to the Avs but Sakic has the sens by the balls by owning their pick. They dont have to get into any sort of bidding war for EK like the rest of the league does. They own something that no other team than can offer them. Their own 1st.

So Avs wouldnt offer way better packages including the sens own pick that other teams have been reported to have offered. Sens cant get Dallas to offer up heiskanen or Vegas to offer up Glass, do you hink the Avs will offer up the sens 1st, Barrie, and one of the top Dmen in all the CHL last year?

Sens are so screwed when dealing with the Avs. With what has been reported, Sens want their own pick back in the worst way and Sakic has been firm, sure you can have it back but its for Karlsson or Stone, if they dont like it they are happy holding onto it and rolling the dice next year with it. They already have a huge win with the Duchene trade return, it could be an embarrassment of riches when the pick is a Top 5 one next year

I honesty laugh every time I talk to people about this because of how bad that trade is turning out hahaha

But ya I don’t think Kerfoot or Timmins are quite Heiskanen level. I think Glass is involved if Ryan isn’t but it’s sounding like Ottawa is dying on that hill.

I agree with the pick thought though, Sakic can’t just sit back and hold that over them. My point is more just that a top 5 NHL player is worth that price, not in this situation because Ottawa holds no power, but in another scenario I think this is good value.

Timmins is not Heiskanen level I agree but the Sens 1st is worth a pretty penny.
I also am biased bc I hate Cody Ceci as player, during the duchene trade talks leading up to the deal. all I heard was from Sens fans is how great Ceci is. I just dont get it, he is legit one of the least effective Dmen in the league with the amount of ice time he gets, I dont know why they put him out there so much to get torched like he does. Seeing Ceci in any trade package to the Avs just makes me go gross

This years draft is deep at center. Heard their might be 2-3 top line centers in this draft so ya having a top 5 pick and still making the playoffs will be huge for the AVs.

Agree whole heartedly with the Ceci analysis. I have seen him get lost in his own end so many times you would think he is in a corn maze trying to find a way out.

to be honest I would rather see the Avs trade back the 1st round pick to the Sens to get Mark Stone over Karlsson.

Stone is the perfect addition to make the avs a real serious team in the central next year. To me he makes all the sense in the world to trade and extend giving up the sens own 1st

He is a very under rated player. So good defensively and can snipe when he needs to.

If I were Sakic contemplating sending back the 1st to OTT then it would be for Stone rather than Karlsson. Stone is simply a better fit for the Avs and that isn't knocking Karlsson. That trade, however, is a big over payment on the Avs part and I'm in agreement with the majority I think when I say I'd want no part of Ceci!
