Edmonton says no. RNH is probably better, signed with term, and will be cheaper than patches after next year.

Instead of a first round, adding Paul Byron who could be a perfect fit with the speedy McDavid.

RNH is not as good as Pacioretty. Younger, yes. Cheaper, yes. But not better. Pacioretty supports his line and makes them better (played with basically second- third line players his whole career). RNH has played pretty much always played with elite wingers or players and still never taken that step forward everyone has been waiting for.

Every time I see this trade I think the biggest issue with it is the fallout. By that I mean, RNH would be thrown into a #1 role in MTL with good wingers but not Taylor Hall or McDavid players so he is probably going to max out at 50 points. Pacioretty however will all of a sudden finally be on a top line where he isn’t the bet player and solely depended on. That means he most likely breaks 40 goals and gets 75-80 points. After that everyone screams MB lost another trade but really it’s more because one player is entering an environment he can succeed in and the other is walking into one that isn’t even really trying to succeed right now.
