Not sure why you see Shaw as a salary dump, teams were calling Bergevin at the TD and seeing if he wanted to trade him. Teams still view him as a valuable asset

Retaining money on Price means a better return. I know his contract seems expensive but it’s pretty much the same one Lundqvist signed at the same age. So he is still valuable enough to get a better package in return then a hopeful #1 center, back up goalie and a pick that would depend on when this trade was made.

If someone wants him without retained salary, I'll trade him without giving up any picks to sweeten the deal. Do you have someone in mind who would like him and his contract?

The fact that I'd be putting Price on the block, stinks of desperation. Other GMs would sniff it out. Doesn't mean I can't get more, but that package is the least I'd be willing to settle for.
