How is that a wasted trade?

Because your giving up a decent roster player, and multiple picks to try to improve a position while your also trying to tank. I also don’t think Staal is much of an upgrade from alzner. I also would rather just have the second roster player your sending in that trade Mike Reilly play those top pairing minutes.

How is Staal a 1st pairing D at all? At the absolute best he’s a fringe second pairing defenseman on a horrible contract. And at the very best, he’s worth absolutely nothing.

Schlemko isnt going to get you a 3rd round pick. He wouldnt even crack the roster with the Avs D Core right now.

If you think Staal is a 1st pair D then boy I have oceanfront property to sell you in Kansas, brother. Staal is barely a third pairing defenseman anymore, and putting him alongside the broken corpse of Shea Weber is icing one of the worst cost/production D pairs in the NHL. The Rangers are literally going to buy out Marc Staal next year, in all likelihood. We would have to pay someone to take him from us because his contract is not worth his play anymore.

Colorado says no. Schlemko isn't a fit for a rebuilding team and no way you get those picks for him. He'd be a 7th D at best on Colorado's current unit.
