Tampa needs to dump salary to get Karlsson, anyone they attempt to trade with will know this. That means any trade they try to make is going to be well below market value for that player. What I mean by that is, they'll have to pay a premium to move out salary since the other team involved will know this. You are not getting a 1st rounder back for anyone you move out for cap reduction efforts, instead you may have to pay something extra to make a move.

I'd pass on all three of those deals if I was the other team. Gourde, Foote, Coburn are not the top tier of prospects. The first rounder will be 25+. Ottawa could get more, especially at the deadline. For NJD, why trade away a high level prospect and a first round pick for something you could develop internally? Tyler Johnson is a 2C at best. Not worth it to ship out one of your better prospects and a first rounder for him, especially when you know what TBL's cap situation looks like. He could be had for less. For Montreal, it's close, but to take on the Girardi contract, TBL is going to have to give up value. Coburn and washes out the 4th rounder. I don't think Koekkoek is worth a high second rounder right now. Close though, maybe a third instead?

No team will want to take Callahan. TBL is stuck w/ him unless they trade him with a good player/1st round pick/good prospect.

Callahan can't stay healthy, No team is taking on that contract. And besides Sergachev needs to be included for Dorion to even think about dealing Karlsson to the Lightning.

NMC are a huge issue with these trades too, Johnson, Callahan and Girardi are all protected.

No team is taking Callahan for just a 2nd. If it were that easy, Tampa wouldn't need Ottawa to be their middle man, it would be done already. Callahan carries a 5.8 cap hit for 2 more years and has produced a grand total of 17 goals in the last THREE seasons combined. No team is spending 5.8 in cap to get 6 goals and 15 points a season which is what Callahan has put up the last 3. Honestly, Tampa's first probably isn't enough to move that deal as it will end up mid 20's at best..

I wouldn't call Speers high level.

Multiple sources have him as a top 3 prospect on their team. To me, that's considered high-level, at least internally. Either way, I wouldn't be trading him away plus another first round pick for TJ
