Yeah, he is a UFA next year so signing the one year deal probably means he wants out, and wont resign next year.

My thots...If he wanted to stay it would be a long term deal...Cuz 4+Mill is what he deserves.

I'm a little bit worried that Tavares might have started a trend....

2018

1. Tavares walks.
2. DeHaan walks.

2019

3. Nelson walks?
4. Eberle walks?
5. Lee walks? (if he can't replicate last year....he might start dreaming about a Lee - Tavares - Marner combo).

That could leave a pretty rough looking group of forwards on the Island....the only guys locked in long term are:

- Bailey (Good)
- Ladd (Nope)
- Clutterbuck (Nope)
- Cizikas (Nope)
- Komarov (Nope)
- Johnston (Nope)

And somehow these guys have a combined cap hit of $21,500,000. (Nope)

If Eberle and and Lee walk they are screwed. Wouldn't surprise me at all though.

Yeah but they also got Barzal, Bellows, Soderstrom, Beauvillier, Wahlstrom, Aho, Leddy, Pulock, Dobson. If NYI trade Lee, Eberle and Nelson for good draft picks or prospects they could be a good team in the next couple of years

This should be the final signal that it's time to rebuild. They've got a solid pipeline, now trade Lee and Eberle at the deadline to give you three first round picks. Build an elite farm system quickly, start a youth movement, move into the new arena ready to trend upwards.

What makes you think Eberle and Lee are both leaving?

Not a good deal. The guy should be closer to $3.800 mil. Don't know why you don't get a longer deal done...

Things are not going great on the Island. Vegas had three second lines last year and almost won the Cup. The Islanders have three fourth lines, and could be the worst team in the east.

Both are exiting their prime and probably aren't good enough to carry a team to success.

So I don't necessarily think they're going to leave....but if the prospects don't make a big impact this year....they'll have no reason to think they can win with the Islanders.

A 7 year deal will take them both to 35-36....I assume they'll want to lock up the money....but likely want to do it on a team with a better shot at the cup.

However - if some of the young players take a massive step forward....the situation could easily change for the better.

But for that to happen...New York will need:

- 2 young d-men to step up in a big way.
- 2 young forwards to step up in a big way.
- A goalie to step up in a big way.
- Barzal to repeat last years success (agianst every teams shut-down unit this time around).

Wrong. We want out. He does nt play defense, and he is MIA during the Winter months
