Means a lot to the team but he's not worth 5.17. He doesn't score enough points for that much cash

Wow. I'm speechless. This is worse than the Reaves deal.

Wilson looked really good on the first line last season and especially good during the Cup run, if he's able to play the same way he had been the last few months than this deal is maybe a slight overpay, but if he can't replicate that success than this deal could turn out to be really bad. But irregardless Caps are Cup champs so of course they're gonna overpay their core like every other team does (See: Toews, Seabrook, Brown, Hornqvist, etc...)

The guy hasn’t scored more than 35 points in a season and that season was playing with 2 elite players. Guy isn’t worth more than $3.5 per.

I think the cap space is so high, along with Reeves, because outside of those two, Lucic, Josh Anderson, Benn, and maybe the Ritchie brothers there aren't too many gritty physical power forwards in the league right now. Plus Wilson showed somewhat last year that he can play on the top line and he will only be 30 when this contract is over so it will not up end like Lucic in Edmonton.

He had 15 points in 21 playoff games this year, I was saying if he can replicate that and his play from late in the regular season then the deal is okay. Not good, but okay

Wow this is bad and I say this as a Wings fan. I thought he was going to get something like 2 years at 3 million ( even that seems generous).

You can't put Wilson in the same conversation of those guys. Even Hornqvist. One thing is overpay for a talented players or your leader and captain, like Brown. Other is overpay for a goon who had one good season in his career. Even if this season helped to lead his team to the cup.

Besides, look at the term. It's even worse. If Washington wanted to overpay him, they should offer 2 or 3 years at most. 6 years with that salary is the greatest joke of the season.

Worse than Beagle's. And Beagle's contract was already a huge joke either. So...ouch!!

Maybe 5.17m is what it takes to get him to stop handing the other team power plays

Yep, the worst contract of the summer, my friends. Without Ovechkin and Kuznetsov, he's a mere 3rd liner. Unless they win another Stanley Cup, this is a huge loss for the Capitals. Yes, he stands up for his teammates. But he also is the second most penalised player in the league after Micheal Haley. And that is not good company. I hope the Capitals don't make another overpayment. Because if they stack bad deals on top of each other like Detroit or Chicago or Los Angeles did, this could get pretty nasty. At least, he had 50 points in 99 games if you count the playoffs. If he replicates that production for the next 6 years (which is almost impossible), it's a good contract.

Nice try. But that's not even close to enough. I never tought I could think that Beagle's contract wasn't so bad. But now I changed my mind.
