Top line Tom!!!

Created by: Capitalfail67
Team: 2018-19 Washington Capitals
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 27, 2018
Published: Jul. 27, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Overpayed by 1 million but he’ll only be 30 when this contract ends and this might end up being a steal if he pulls a .75ppg like he did in the playoffs.

But people are going to say what they’ll say but no one knows what he’ll produce playing top line minutes. He sure looked elite and made some major plays when it mattered.

Long story short. Wilson is a huge fan favorite he helped us win a cup. I’m happy we have him for another 6 years

Huge overpayment for a guy who does nothing but get penalized and throw the body. Outside of last years playoffs, he has done nothing offensively

Definitely looks like an over payment at the moment. I was thinking he'd get around 4 million a year but in years 4, 5, and 6 the cap is gonna be a lot higher and if he's putting up 40+ points consistently and playing the same type of game this deal could end up being worth the money.

Definitely an over payment, but the guy is a very productive player. He didn't play on the first line consistently until the second half of the season and got no power play time and still managed to put up 35 points in 78 games. And his playoff performance is hopefully and indication of his future. Only 24 years old he's definitely still getting better.

I doubt the two Russians he’s mates with will complain much. Hopefully, he can stay out of trouble.

Yeah everyone is talking but he played 8 -10minutes a game w j beagle and dsp or chaison

He’ll play 16-20 minutes a game now might get 2nd pp time and he’s playkng w ovi and kuzy. He average .75ppg in playoffs I mean it’s a risk but I mean eichel makes 10 million and hasn’t put up elite numbers......like I said before everyone is overpaid to sum degree

35 points is not good at all. He's playing with some of the best talent in the game and still does not produce decent offensive numbers. I know he's not an offensive player, but if someone is making his money, they better be able to hold it down offensively. Right now to me, the contract is one of the worst in the NHL. But thats based off his past years. If he's able to put up offensive numbers, then the contract won't be bad

Personally I think he'll be a 45-50 point guy with Ovi and Kuzya, which makes him worth the deal, it's just that he hasn't proven it over a full season yet which makes me a little nervous. Like you said definitely a risk and as of now it looks like an over payment but I could definitely see this working out for the Caps in the long run.

He played 25-30 games w ovi and kuzy? And he played w them in the playoffs and they were the best line soo yeah. Do a tiny bit of research before you blindly make claims. His line mates for 65% of the year was beagle or eller

As I stated previously, he wasn't with Ovechkin and Kuznetsov for a good portion of the season. If you take his playoff stats and stretch that over 82 games he was on pace to score roughly 58 points. Obviously that's a small sample size and it's a risk paying him the much hoping he can do that consistently.

I agree it's an over payment, but watching the guy play all year he clearly made great strides in the right direction offensively and I think he can be a 45-50 point guy. It's a risk it seems McClellan seems comfortable taking. I really thought he'd be getting about 4 million a year but I understand overpaying to keep the gang together.

If he’s parked in front of the goalie on the PP, maybe he deflects some shots in and increases his point total that way. I think the Caps, tho, are banking on him being a force during the playoffs instead of the regular season. (BTW, I don’t necessarily agree with teams that put their cap in a bind by signing guys for the second season.).

Absolutely! The old saying goes that defense and goaltending win championships. I’d have to say scoring more than the other team (which the Caps do pretty well!) for 16 games anyways has a lot to do with winning as well. A guy like Wilson is an asset every team would want, again assuming he plays under control and isn’t a detriment. Him causing havoc allows the superstars to perform even better.

Mad at what? I started laughing when I saw the contract. I’m really glad Washington did they cause now they screwed themselves with either vrana or bura. I thank the caps for their idiotic move. They’re paying a trashcan who sits in the penalty box $5mill lol

Or maybe he’ll get 50 points and win another cup and you’ll change your mind?
