Point is apparently ‘untouchable’
He fills a role that nobody else can fill on the team, and he's young and continuing to improve. Karlsson would make any team significantly better, but Point is by far their best shutdown center (and a 30 goal scorer). At 22, he's continuing to improve, and he was the main reason the Lightning were so effective at shutting down Taylor Hall and the Bergeron line during the playoffs. Tyler Johnson would their next best #2 center, and if the Lightning want to contend for a Cup, unless the Tyler Johnson from 2014-2015 returns, that's not good enough (and he's more of an offensive center than a two-way center like Point). Yzerman doesn't want to make a hole in his roster like that, and he's in a position where he can hang up the phone with Dorion and still contend for a Cup, so that takes away from the Senators' already limited negotiating power with him.
They'll give you one of Sergachev and Foote, but if they give both, within three years or so, their entire defensive core is above 30 years old (unless Koekkoek, Dotchin, Cernak, or Masin has a breakout year, which you can't rely on). Karlsson and Hedman at 30 are still better than most defensemen will ever be, but you need to have some younger players in the mix. They need to keep one of those two.
Take out Point and Foote (or Sergachev, if you would prefer), and then add in some forward prospects (specifically not those named Cirelli) and more draft picks, and you have the Lightning's probable final offer, that Dorion can take or leave.
