Trading the Leafs goalies depth for meaningless picks. What happens if Andersen ever gets injured, Sparks and and ECHLer? And highly unlikely these two players are ever claimed on waivers.

Mcelhinney was the best back up in the league last year and Pickard is a young, fringe starter. they are getting claimed might as well get some assets. If freddy gets injured sparks was the best goalie in the AHL last season and has starting goalie potential and he would be backed up by kaskisuo, an average AHL goalie.

When you have a chance, look up the past AHL goalies of the year and count how many today are top end NHL starters. That number is very low...

Correct me if I'm wrong but Toronto needs to keep Horton off the LTIR for the bonuses of Marner & Matthews to be paid out this years cap and not next right? It's so confusing but that is what I have taken from some of the stuff I've read.

Also I agree. Trading the goaltending depth is a bad idea. I get that we MIGHT lose these guys for nothing but that is a risk they'll have to take.

I did, all the u25 drafted goalies who win the best AHL goalie award in the last 15 seasons are, Garrett Sparks, Matt Murray, Jake Allen, Jonathan Bernier, Cory Schneider, and Jason Labarbera. I'm not saying Sparks will be the best goalie in the league, but at the very least he should be a fringe starter who should be able to take a lot of the load off of freddy

He will be put on LTIR but since the leafs aren't against the cap, there won't be any relief, and last years bonuses are carried over, really doesn't affect anything tho. Also it is extremely likely that McElhinney and Pickard are picked up off of waiver, if anything keep Pickard since he made it through last year, but I doubt that McElhinney makes it

There's something odd about obsessively acquiring fourth-round picks . . . is it some form of obscure numerology?

Why do think McBackup and Pickard are claimed on waivers? Pickard is a backup AHL who wasn't claimed last year on waivers. There is an average of one player a year claimed on waivers every year. Reason so few is that the player has to be placed on the NHL roster. Again a fourth rounder is meaningless, it would be wise for the Leafs to keep players available in case Sparks doesn't pan out.

This team is boring as ****.

And the trades put us in a vulnerable position for no real reason.

Trading 1 goalie is fine....but not 2 of the 3 with NHL experience....before Sparks has proven anything in the big show.

Why not just wait for the deadline?

1) You'll know if Sparks is legit or not.
2) A few playoff teams will have injured goalies....so someone will pay a 2nd / 3rd for McElhinney or Pickard.

Thanks for reminding mesmile. Still the benefit the Leafs having a player claimed on waivers, is that the Leafs have some rights to claim the player back if Philly and Carolina put the players on waivers. I still say it was worth taking a chance of waivers than a kinda meaningless pick for the players.
