What do we do if Crawford doesn’t play most of or all of this season?

Created by: Kyle_Davidson
Team: 2018-19 Chicago Blackhawks
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 31, 2018
Published: Aug. 1, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
If Crawford is out for most of or the entire season then I would advocate for the hawks giving the first 20ish starts to Cam Ward to see if they are competitive. If they are then ride the ward into the playoffs without selling off assets. If they are not competitive then we give Forsburg 2/3 of the remaining starts and hope he develops into a stable backup Goalie for Crawfords return. Then we sell off all of our assets on one year contracts (Excluding young players) at the trade deadline. This means saying goodbye to Rutta, Kunitz, Ward, and Kruger ( assuming the ones with NMC waive them) by sending them to contenders with retained salary.

After the deadline we call up some of our prospects, including Jokiharju to get NHL experience.

If Crawford is still not healthy at this point call up Delia to split time with Forsburg. If Crawford isn’t ready by the time 2019-20 comes around then he probably isn’t playing again and we are going to be in desperate need of a goalie.

Trades
1.
CHI
  1. 2019 2nd round pick (SJS)
Additional Details:
Traded to a contender for a 2nd-3rd round pick.

Sharks are a place holder, while I see them as a contender I don’t know if Rutta fits into their needs. Deadline deal.
SJS
  1. Rutta, Jan ($1,150,000 retained)
2.
CHI
  1. 2019 3rd round pick (PHI)
Additional Details:
This guy beasted in the playoffs once a long time ago... perhaps he could suprise us once again behind a decent team in the Flyers.

I believe this guy is an upgrade on Elliot, and he could be a steal for a 3rd round pick.

I actually believe that Philly is probably a goalie away from being a legitimate playoff contender and while Cam Ward isn’t exactly a Patrick Roy he could be good stopgap for a team struck waiting for Carter Hart.
PHI
  1. Ward, Cam ($1,500,000 retained)
3.
CHI
  1. 2019 5th round pick (PIT)
Additional Details:
Pens get an old friend for a conditional 5th round pick. I figure why not, Pittsburg is probably going to win again anyways.

(condition is “ should the pens win 1 round in the playoffs the pick becomes a 2019 4th.)
4.
CHI
  1. 2019 4th round pick (TOR)
TOR
  1. Krüger, Marcus
Additional Details:
Great 4th line center to stack the leafs center depth. Doesn’t cost much, and is still effective. ( he had a injury last year which is why he didn’t play up to what he could have) this guy is a penalty kill specialist.

4th round pick is about what he could fetch.

Kidding aside - the Cam Ward #1 days are very much over. Forsberg better be stretching and getting loose now.

Foster Scott is a cousin of A once Emergency Goalie Scott Foster. He came highly recommended to us, and we believe he is a steal at his cap hit.
