That's a little overpayment for Karlsson.
Klingberg is young and has established himself as a 50-65 pts d man on a stellar contract as well.
Karlsson will provide with maybe 10-15 more points but the Stars would have to pay him big money.

A) Dallas is totally screwed capwise for next season. B) Devils have zero reason to do their part of this.

take a look at the Habs again and figure how they do that.... not only that but all they are getting out of that trade really is a half decent defensman and a lotto ticket.

What do you mean, how do they do that? They get a first, a serviceable C, and a decent defenceman. Plus they get Patches out of their division. The first is likely to be late, but the teams with early firsts are likely to hold on to it. Danault/Janmark means Drouin can move back to the wing and we have a serviceable one/two C punch. Janmark is a RFA. I haven't seen any better offers for Patches that a useful roster player and a first - I'd prefer a defence prospect to a defenceman, but how is that a deal breaker? We don't - in this hypo - even have a demand that Patches extend first.

I just meant where does everyone fit on an already crowded roster with prospects deserving of getting a shot.

With Patches out in this trade, Shaw and Bryon injured, and assuming both these guys start with the Habs, that would give the Habs 14 forwards (currently at 15 - 3 + 2). Maybe in order to get Dallas's first and a top 6 C we have to risk exposing Deslauriers to waivers? Or look at trading away Bryon, Shaw, Delauriers? I'd take the chance.

I'd rather trade the 3.. only one that would hurt saying goodbye to is Byron. Shaw is a fourth liner at best now and Delauriers is a bum.. he didn't do anything in Buffalo and he has probably even less help to improve him here in Montreal than he did in Buffalo.
