honestly. he is hands down the worst GM in the NHL.
People don't realize how high Sergachev's ceiling is.

The only one that is any good is the Domi trade. Chucky just was not performing in MTL. Drouin would have been ok if he could be a center....

Still not a playoff team. While I think all of these trades were terrible, it kind of shows you that no matter what they try, the big problem is they haven't drafted well and still have zero centres depth. This team needs a rebuild no matter if they made those 1 for 1 trades or not.

I agree. The change of scenary will benefit both players. MTL just completely mismanaged Chucky.
It just doesn't make sense right now to admit a rebuild was necessary with Carey just hitting his 30s and Weber on the decline.

Drouin is not a centre lol. I have no idea what fascinates montreal management to force guys who are accustomed to the wing to play C.

I am always amazed (and frustrated) but the 1 for 1 trades where Bergevin doesn't at least try to snag an extra pick, especially in the Subban-Weber trade where the age difference between the 2 players should have amounted to, say, Subban for Weber + a 2nd or a 3rd in a future year. Weber is good but is old, slow, and injured more often than not.

Yeah centre depth is pretty much non-existent still. But overall, you have Carey Price in net. Even just keeping Sergachev and Subban would do miles more than having guys like Alzner playing with Petry.

They should have kept Radulov and Markov too.

I have no idea what possessed him to trade Subban for Weber ONE FOR ONE.
but nonetheless, not even attempting to keep Radulov and Markov was just as bad because the team went from at least making the playoffs to almost dead last.

Look at all the cap space they have, overpaying Radulov doesnt hurt one bit considering they have a 10.5 miliion still-excellent Carey Price in goal.

One advantage is that they are getting decent players in the draft. think WPG and TOR

you're right but it depends how long the rebuild is. If Price is pushing 36-37 by the time the rebuild is actually complete. Its a waste of his prime years

Price will be another Lundquist...Awesome goalie but will never win a cup, unless traded

I have to highlight that Radu's case is much different. MB stated in an interview that Radulov wanted 1M$ more then in Dallas even if MB's offer was the equivalent of Dallas' post-tax earnings offer.

Post-tax 6,25M$ AAV in Dallas = 8M$ AAV in Montreal. AND he still wanted 1M$ more then that.

So, in fact, Radulov wanted 9M$ AAV for 5 years to stay in MTL. I would have been furious at MB's place too if I learned that this was his final demand.

Let alone 6,75M$ for 4 years...
