Panarin would seriously consider returning to Chicago should he hit free agency according to reports.

that means, we should free up some cap.

The tough part is whether or not Panarin wants Anisimov to stay to re-unite 72-15-88. If that happens, where does Schmaltz go? I'd be fine playing him on the wing with Toews and Saad but then DeBrincat becomes the odd man out. He would still excel on the third line and possibly playing maximum power play time.

Schmaltz would be the second line center. Anisimov will be the 3rd line center.

Not if the Breadman is in town. Anisimov played his best hockey centering Panarin and Kane. They'd move Schmaltz to the wing, hopefully to spark some offense on the first line.

I think Anisimov was the third wheel in that relationship, Schmaltz is a much more dynamic player who already slots well with Kane. If they try 72 ( or 9) 8 and 88 then we are golden.

We've already seen that Anisimov struggles when he's not playing in the top 6, that's why I trade him in this scenario.

I would rather have 8 in the top 6 period. Anisimov is expendable.
