What I think a one-year UFA is really worth

Created by: OldNYIfan
Team: 2018-19 Ottawa Senators
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 4, 2018
Published: Aug. 4, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The trades I've seen on CF for UFA's on expiring contracts seem absurdedly high to me. Although I think Carolina severely undervalued Jeff Skinner, that transaction should have thrown a bucket of cold water on all the posters who think that EK is worth (for example) Cody Glass, Nicholas Hague and two first-round picks (in essence, four first-round assets) to Las Vegas. Drawing on the wildly successful Milan Lucic precedent, here's what I think is the maximum Ottawa can expect to get for their big three UFA's. (I don't think they'll trade all three because then they have trouble meeting the $58.8M minimum.) Meanwhile, here's a team that will make Colorado happy.

Like the Colorado thought. Probably only playoff contenders, especially top contenders will be in the bidding for these guys. Like the value. Thanks for not including the silly notion that Ryan will be included in an EK deal.

Carolina should be on the phone right now with Ottawa pestering them to get Duchene or Stone.

BTW - when did Sbisa become a top pairing D man worth 3x3.3? Assuming to get to the cap floor? Why not do 1 year

value depends on the player and if they are willing to sign an extension.
no extension for a player like Karlsson a 1st and A+ prospect. Especially if he's going somewhere he may want to resign.
You could get that for him at trade deadline, no doubt. Past that, it all depends on who wants him most. Ottawa is already letting teams talk about an extension. So I'm sure he will pull more.
I think the real issues with Karlsson is he wants a max length deal at a huge cap hit. He's already 28. You get stuck with that cap his when he's 34-35 ouch....
I'm guessing that is the hold up.

Rick Nash hauled in a better return then these trades.... although they didn’t probably think Spooner would pan out the way they did.

EK is NEVER going to Florida.

Yes, the cap floor is a problem for this team. And I dialed up three years because I think that's what Sbisa is going to want for some security.

"Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how did you like the play?"

Damn it . . . I'm a complete IDIOT. I totally forgot about the Mrs-Mrs thing. I should have traded him to Las Vegas for Eakin, Hunt and a first-rounder.

I really don't think it is. They can use that space to their advantage like a baseball trade.
Wait till deadline when teams need cap space, and use it to get assets playing the middle man.

Yeah, remember that immediately after the first game two guys totaling $9.5M in cap hits go on LTIR.
