Quite the assumption that the players will resign with their new teams. Possibly the Jets couldn't afford to resign Duchene, but I like the semi cap dump of Perrault in the original deal.

One question, if Melnyk is out, why do you need to trade your best players?

It would be possible depending on what the contract for Laine is, and if they trade Myers or another 30+ year old player making 5m+. All these teams have the cap space to resign the players AND are playoff and or cup contenders.

Because its not certain even with melnyk out they would want to stay, Duch wants to win not and not be part of a rebuild, as for EK and Stone, who knows if they would stay or what a new owner would do.

You don't need to a crystal ball to see that the first round pick of a basement team is worth more than 1 year of Mark Stone

not only this but there is also no way they get Kerfoot.
The fastest way to kill your ability to sign college FA is to trade them out the organization right away.
Kerfoot is there till at least the end of his rookie deal. You trade him now and every other rookie free agent is looking at you and thinking the same thing. If I sign there I'll be traded out in a year.

You said they are expected to re-sign, not that it was built into the deal. Duchene was expected to re-sign in Ottawa but it didn't work out that way. Even if he does re-signs it's still a terrible deal for Colorado.

Duch not going to COL, he going to WPG. and Stone is a younger version of P.Bergeron, obliterates everyone else in the takeaway category every year, and can be a 70-80P RW.
