Interesting Leaf deal. Stars seem interested obtaining Leafs Dmen (including Polak). Leafs would have to be sure that Honda is at least the equivalent of Zaitsev to make the deal. I think Borgman is going to be NHLer.
Too call Duchene a "great centre". Might be too much optimism.

How are you helping the logjam LHD when you're giving us back a LHD??? Also Honka is nowhere close to what Zaitsev is and never will be, not saying he isn't good but Zaitsev is better then he showed last year and making this trade wold be selling low on him which Dubas isnt dumb enough to do. Sure Methot is better right now but Borgman will surpass him sooner then later. You leave the trade of CMac and a 4th for a 3rd I'd do that.

I think the Ottawa trade is right on value.

As to the Toronto trade, it's a good idea but you have the two wrong defensemen from Dallas. Methot is in the last year of his contract and may turn out to be a rental player; if not, he just presents another high-price player to re-sign in 2019. The right two players from Dallas are Stephen Johns and Esa Lindell (who, although also in the last year of his contract, should be much easier to sign). Toronto doesn't need Honka because they have plenty of D prospects in the system.

Let me rephrase that: Duchene is a great 2nd centre.

Read the whole thing - I said prospect logjam. You guys have a lot of young promising LHDs (such as Dermott, Borgman, Rosen, Sandin and Nielsen). Adding a decent experienced LHD that becomes UFA next season is beneficial for your prospects, they have a place to fill after his contract expires.

What comes to Zaitsev, I believe Honka will become as good or even better player than him. He just not seem to have any future in Dallas (a crying shame really, but we already have quite a lot of offensive d-men in our roster). Zaitsev could work for us, and getting rid of his salary will certainly help you, since you need all the money necessary to resign your star players. I think it's a win-win solution.

Nah. Lindell and Johns are far too important for us to give away for this return. Lindell is better than Borgman and will be in the future as well, and Johns is better than Zaitsev(at least very close to him, and signed to a much better contract). If those were the d-men DAL would give away in this trade, it would be a freaking steal from Toronto.

Honda is if NHL good what be a great addition for the Leafs....a RHD in the trade, even if cost them another RHD in Zaitsev. It's the probable cap spade benefit at least for a couple years the Leafs would like.
Methot and his expiring contract is probably what the Leafs want as they wouldn't want to resign himin the in 2019.

Yes we have a bunch of "prospects" I knew what you meant. But most are shot in the dark, Rosen, Borgman, Nielsen have good abilities but I don't see any being a top 4 guy. Rielly and Dermott are the future.

Leafs have Hainsey for a "experienced" LHD (who btw can play right side) they don't need another.

Leafs have enough cap space for everybody especially with Martin being gone. Next year Hainsey comes off the books. So does Gardiner unless Leafs resign him. Leafs have plenty of guys (D Men) coming up and cheap. We don't need anyone unless for a rental if Leafs decide to go for it.
