Kadri Traded

Description
I know Kadri is on an extremely friendly team contract and is in his peak. Having 3 centers scoring 30g would be quite the asset, but I am on the side that leafs need to upgrade defense. If we are going to pay Nylander the big bucks, we have Kadri natural replacement right there (even though I am aware they are very different players in different roles). The return for Gostisbehere in my opinion is well worth trading him, Flyers will get a #2 center until Patrick is ready for that role, Sandin will develpope into an excellent D-man (not to mention they have Philppe Myers as well as replacements for Gostisbehere- although not to the same level). Bracco is an excellent player as well, just needs the right situation to develop and the Flyers are weak on the wings, perfect situation for Bracco. As well they get an upgrade in back up goalie, arguable McElhinney could be the starter if Eliote goes on a terrible start again.

With acquiring Gostisbehere you are actually downgrading the defence because Ghost is purely offensive guy with defensive liabilities and he is LHD. Kadri would not be traded. That deal is bargain. Sandin could develop into extremely good two way defender.. no, thank you..

To me it's an overpayment for the Ghost. OK I could see Kadri, but Sandin and a first and more is excessive. Though Ghost had a break out seasons offensively last year, is he really the type of Dmen the Leafs want? Appaently he isn't strong defensively though Flyers fans would. know better. But I certainly think your thought is trying to make a fit fo both teams is good.

Not sure if you saw him play at all last year but he was actually quite sound defensively. Obviously he will never but a shutdown guy and that is not his job but he greatly improved the defensive side of his game.

One star for a couple reasons.

1. Massive overpayment, Sandin as a rookie put up fantastic numbers last year, let alone adding Bracco who was great in limited play with the Marlies and our 1st, 2nd and Kadri who potted 30 goals like nothing.
2. That 3 barrel attack down the middle I am not splitting up with Toronto, that is going to be a matchup nightmare, all 3 are close to untouchable as a whole.
3. Why are they nearly untouchable? Matthews is a franchise player as well as Tavares. Kadri scores 30 a year like nothing, is a great 2 way player on the biggest bargain contract in the league, I am not moving him.

Sorry man, this just makes 0 sense, especially when the Leafs are better off going after Tanev etc.

Kadri is integral to this team. It's not just the production, but his transition into a solid 2-way C.
His contract is perfect value and he's versatile enough to play 2nd line C, if needed.
Ghost is really good, but Gardiner plays a similar role as an offensive LHD.
Right after making this trade, TML would be looking to trade for a Kadri-type 3C.

My thought in this trade scenario was giving Nylander the chance to develop into a better centerman. I didn't just put Nylander in the center for no reason, I feel that Matthews, Tavares, and Nylander is equally as deep down the middle, perhaps more offensive minded then with Kadri albeit, but Tavares can also take on the tough match up as Kadri did. Also, it frees up space for Leafs wingers to further develop.
