Why would you bridge Nylander when a longer term contract (5 to 6 years) will only be a bit more? Thanks to Larkin, Nylander will get 6-6.25/year.

larkin got under payed 40 point players make over 5m$ now. stone should be the most comparable value for Nylander, but stone should make a bit more as his pts per game is better even tho he is older. my guess is just under 7m$ for 6 years is best deal.

This is what it takes to get Parayko without Nylander. It's a huge overpay, but I can't see Army taking less

I like this deal. But again if we are going for a cup. I still think our team needs him. But still very good improvement from other deals.

I agree, but this is a trade that you just cannot refuse.

I agree, but highly unlikely Toronto will offer this to pry Parayko away.

It's a fair offer value-wise but I can't see STL wanting to move Parayko. Not sure why you'd bridge Nylander. Why not pay him the money now when it's going to be less and get him for longer?

There’s a lot of pieces but it wouldn’t get Parayko. Gardiner isn’t needed. He’s a LHD. This year the Blues have Edmundson and Dunn who should be the 1st and 2nd LHD. Bouwmeester will be the bottom pairing and play PK. I still look for the Blues to trade Gunnarsson at some point.

The Blues also have plenty of prospects that are LHD who should be able to play bottom pairing at minimum. Bouwmeester’s deal ends after this year. With Edmundson and Dunn the LHD is solid. Neither should be playing bottom pairing minutes. Neither should Gardiner. He just doesn’t fit. On top of that he’ll be a UFA.

Liljegren Is a good prospect. Right now that’s all he is. That’s not what the Blues organization is interested in. The Blues are in a win now mode.

Leivo Isn’t needed and would join the logjam of forward prospects..

Again, it’s a lot of pieces but the Blues would pass.

Much as I like the idea of getting some value for Gardiner now, I just don't see the advantage of acquiring another big ticket (no matter how good) one year before the Great Signing Madness of 2019. Aside from the fact that I also think it's one 2020 draft pick too many, acquiring Parayko guarantees that either Marner or Nylander has to go. (It's hard enough to make the expected 2019 roster work with an $82M cap keeping Zaitzev; since Parayko is $1M more, that makes another big move almost certainly necessary.) But thanks for getting the conversation going again.

Comparable players for Nylander currently make 6 million flat (Ehlers).
His maximum cap hit is Pasternak's deal (6.66), as Pasta is unquestionably better (at least in contract related metrics).
Larkin is very similar to Nylander. His cap shows that cap inflation is not an issue.
Therefore, Nylander will get 6-6.25 for 5-7 years(I am betting on 6.25).

Pasternak's will probable be closest then, Ehlers and Larkin deserve a heck of a lot more than wilson or hayes. tho taking a team discount will probable be a wild card because everyone wants to win.
