That's not even the worst part. The Coyotes are not a team that can spend to the cap, and this has them $475k from the upper limit of the cap (with Hossa's contract on the books). Arizona will be losing a ton of money every year if they spend this much money on player salaries.

You are absolutely correct...but at some point the fans would have to come back. Hypothetically, would adding Matthews to the mix bring them back?
(other than having a blue light special on tickets or a blue hair (retiree) promotion with open buffet at 4 pm).

Offer sheets DO NOT EXIST anymore in the NHL. Okay, they "exist", but they don't actually happen. You know it's going to get matched, and you shouldn't pay him 14M per year ANYWAY, at least if you're also giving up 4 1sts. And you're just gonna get them stuck with the cap. That's the only reason you would offer sheet someone, which does nothing for you but make them not want to trade with you, when maybe there's a future deal to be done that makes sense.
