Honestly? That 2nd but without condition would be enough.

Why?

Why would the Preds give up a 25 goal scorer in Smith + solid 4th liner + a 2nd round pick to get Paul Byron? He's a solid player but this would be a MASSIVE overpay by NSH.

Decent team, but you need more up front and you have the cap space to get it. Go after Duchene or Stone. Maybe both, why not?

This would be an over-payment for Paccioretty

I feel like the conditional 2nd alone would be a solid trade for both teams. Montreal gets to continuing rebuilding while Nashville gets a top 5 speedster in the NHL who can slot anywhere in the top 9 and contribute effectively

I think what Nashville is missing is what James Neal brought to the table and something beyond the big 4 dman, nothing against Byron but I don’t think it fills there needs, cheap random deal for Reilly and Watson turning into bigger version of Neal is all they really need and rinne on his contract year hungry

I agree it's too much but remember Watson's probably done in the NHL.

I left Watson’s status aside for this discussion but you may be right.

Even still, Smith and a 2nd would be an overpay. Smith is on a pretty reasonable deal for a consistent 20+ goal scorer and a 2nd carries good value.
