Well part of the reason $8m was asked from LA is due to the 13% income tax rate in California. Illinois is 5% in comparison. So $8M in CA is like $7M in IL. Also, playing in Chicago's likely in every players top 5 teams they'd like to play for. Chicago has the biggest fan base 10 years in a row selling out every game in one of the largest stadiums. Not to mention he'd play on a line with Kane and either Toews or Schmaltz in the middle. Plus, he's not getting Evander Kane money since he is older. JVR is being overpaid IMO.

Those are all good points. i would think most veteran players would love to play in Chicago at some point in their careers.

Carolina says no. Trading Faulk for anything less than a top 6 forward would not be smart. Even with the lack of depth the canes have at C - Anisimov would still be the 3rd center at best, likely the 4th. Neither Forsling nor Forsberg make the Canes opening day roster.

mmmk, let's start with the Murphy deal. I think they don't move him unless they get Faulk. That would clearly be an upgrade. I think they will likely bring in prospects for him instead of picks, but he had a horrid year last year, so I don't know if he has a lot of value right now. Always room to rebound, like the rest of the 'Hawks.

Second, let's look at that Faulk deal. I don't see them talking on Anisimov. They don't need any more 2nd/3rd line centers. They need top line centers. They are also deep on defense, so I'm not sure Forsling makes the most sense. That deal probably starts with a good forward prospect, but they just traded Hinastroza, so I'm not sure it makes sense for them right now. This seems like a struggle because they have an excess of young defensive prospects, but the Hurricanes don't need that. They don't have a lot of forward prospects, which is what Carolina would likely want.

Last, the Pacioretty deal. Here is a deal that makes a ton of sense. The Habs could use any sort of talent. Rutta doesn't make sense, but maybe you add Forsling to this deal instead. A package of Forsling, Iacopelli, a pick (1st or 2nd), and another high-level prospect should make sense.
