No idea why NYI would make this trade now. What they gain on LW they lose on D. But if they were willing, Habs should probably take it.

Johansson is fine and Alzner would be good for NJ. That said, I'd rather get one of their younger prospects.

JDLR is too good to be given away for a "maybe" pick. A prospect ... sure ... but a pick is too risky.

I doubt Montreal could get the rights to a 4th line beer league player for Alzner let alone ANY prospect.

No chance New Jersey, or anyone else would trade a decent asset for Karl Alzner. He's a bad player on a bad contract.

The Alzner that started the year in Montreal was the one you describe. By the second half of the season, by which time Price was shut down, Alzner was not a weakness. He logs big minutes and plays a smart game. After spending his entire career in Washington, he needed time to adjust to the new system in Montreal -- everyone did. Ignoring the contract, there are only a small handful of teams that are deep enough that they couldn't use Alzner. If the Habs eat part of that contract, he would be well sought after.

It's getting a little tiresome. Habs haters need to get some perspective.

So, would you say that you overvalue all of your players every day? Or just the ones that end in Y?

Here's some perspective from a guy who doesn't hate the Habs-Alzner is slow, declining, and obviously as poor at evaluating talent as you are: https://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/canadiens-sign-defenceman-karl-alzner-five-year-deal/

The first line is my personal favorite: "Karl Alzner says joining the Montreal Canadiens gives him a better chance to win a Stanley Cup than he had with the Capitals in Washington."

By the middle of last season, Alzner was a better player than Emelin or Beaulieu. When that was written, the Habs also still had a reasonable expectation that Markov would take a 1-year deal and that Radulov would be back. Obviously, when that was written, the Habs 2017-18 picture looked a whole lot rosier. Fast forward through Weber missing his first season in 12 years, Price suffering through who know what it was, and Drouin taking half a year to become productive and, yes, the season was nowhere near what had been expected. That can't be laid at Alzner's feet.

While Alzner might not be worth that high a contract, the Habs have oodles of money and cap space. As I said above, there are only a very small handful of teams that wouldn't welcome him as part of their 23-man lineup and if you actually watched the Habs through the wretched depths of last winter, you'd know that Alzner was one of the more dependable players on the ice. On a team that was -55, Alzner averaged over 20 minutes per game and was -7 on the year. He wasn't the problem.

As for the other snark, GFY.
