Nikita Scherbak

Created by: CaptainFlynnt

Initial Creation Date: Aug. 18, 2018
Published: Aug. 18, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Looking for the 2014 1st round pick to break out this year and play a top 6 role with Pacioretty and Danault - Scherbak could be a "Radulov lite". 15G, 32A, 47P is my projection.

He has the skill and the playmaking ability to set-up Pacioretty, if he's given a top 6 opportunity I think he will bring his AHL scoring ability (30 pts in 26 games) to the NHL. The key for him will be consistency.

Watch his highlights in the comment section and just imagine if Pacioretty was the player receiving all those passes.

I would agree with you except we don't know whether this kid can take a hit. Radulov was a hippo -- mean, ornery and heavy. Scherbak is a giraffe -- athletic, tall and very aware of his surroundings. There's a reason lion's rarely attack adult giraffes. They're f---ing tough. But it takes a while for them to grow up enough to stand their ground. I hope you're right about Nikita, but I'm reserving judgement.

Radulov is a beast, not expecting scherbak to be Radulov - just "Radulov lite". 47 pts vs the 58 radulov was on pace for with the same linemates.

I just hope MTL gives him (and Pacioretty) a legitimate chance this year. He has more offensive potential than the other young habs wingers (Lehkonen and Hudon).

I dont get it, not like MTL passed on Pastrnak to select Scherbak? Pastrnak was a home run for boston, doesn't mean Scherbak wasn't a good selection at 26.

I like his potential, if he stays healthy and isn't stuck on the 4th line then I think your point projections are reasonable. Thus far he has shown talent but has been inconsistent at the NHL level - but on the other hand the team around him has been bad, he's had a few injury setbacks, and he's been shunted from line to line. I think he is poorly suited for 4th line duties since defensive play isn't his strongest suit so I hope he isn't stuck there like some young players are.

Problem is, Patches is gone. No way does he stay and sign again in MTL. He wants to play for a cup and at 30 years old, he's not signing with a team that is a few years out from competing.

Poor Hudon.

Only 3 players have scored more points in their rookie season for the Habs since 2000, (Ryder, Higgins, Subban) and he's on the 5th line...... Im all for Scherbak getting his chance to shine but Hudon should be in there with him.

That 3rd line should be Lehkonen-Byron-Hudon over Plekanec and Armia. IMO

That's just me personally - I just dont think hudon fits in, he just one of the many small forwards on Montreal and he is clearly behind Domi, Drouin, Gallagher, Byron etc. - he wont play over Shaw (who is even on the 4th line). Armia brings size which montreals forwards lack and he also has skill which has been under-utilized so far in his career in WPG. Armia also kills penalties.

Who plays center on that third line? Plekanec is a C, byron, hudon, and lehkonen are wingers.

I just dont see hudon fitting anywhere with this team long term, but I do admit he has skill and also had some bad puck luck last year. He will need to take advantage of injuries to earn a spot.

Edit:
If pacioretty was traded I would pair hudon with scherbak - they probably have chemistry from the AHL.

Pacioretty says he wants to stay? He is the captain of the most storied franchise in the league and he loves Montreal and lives there all year. If MTL is willing to make it work Pacioretty would stay.

Totally agree man! He has potential, he has hands and he has skill. He just needs a chance with a consistent line. I mean with the current states of our roster it's the best time to give players chances. Play him as our 2nd line RW and let them learn! we don't have many RW prospects and we need him to develop. I would be very happy if he turns into a 20G 20A type of player (which is what I think) but if he develops better than that, it would help us out so much

Most storied franchise? How do you think MTL is the most storied franchise over any of the original 6?

Issue is, Patches wants a run at the cup and MTL is at least 3 years away from being a contender. I think he would be fine going to any of the top 5 large market teams. He can always retire in MTL.

Kick rocks with this contender BS you dont know what Pacioretty wants. Either way if MTL trades Pacioretty that's not a "problem is" thing - they will get future pieces in return.

Maybe most storied isnt the right phrase but wearing the C for team with a history like Montreal comes with a lot of pride - 24 Cups - no team even comes close to matching that and it's not debatable.

You're right. Top NHL players don't want to play for a cup. That's a typical smart Habs fan speaking.

For some players their team and city comes first - they want to win a cup but they want to win it playing for the team they love. Shane Doan playing his entire career in Arizona is a perfect example, the Sedins played their entire career in Vancouver, Markov claims he went to the KHL because he couldn't see himself playing for another NHL team. Believe it or not - the Stanley cup isnt the only thing a player thinks about when decided where he wants to play. These players have families and lives - and Pacioretty says he loves the city of Montreal and the fans - but I should doubt him because some internet poster who is a hawks fan says different.

Well Patches isn't going to say publicly he doesn't like the fans or city. Every player wants a cup and MTL isn't even CLOSE to competing....it would be different if they were a couple players away. Wake up amateur.

I know and I'm not naive enough to believe just because patches says publicly that he wants to stay that it's the truth - but you're talking like hes already made up his mind and is leaving no matter what happens this season which is naive (it might not even be his choice might be in montreals best interest to trade him).

Last time MTL picked 3rd overall they followed it up with winning the division. Many people are counting MTL out but anyone who watches their games can see the potential for them to turn things around next year.

Hey Marco, wanna return to the GM game? My team (MIN) might be opening. The game needs someone who is respected; that’s not me, as I learned today. But you’re still held in high regard, so you’d be a perfect fit if you’re up for it.
