Fair deal, maybe edge to the flames, I think Rychel's size and power game would be slightly more useful to the smallish Habs even though the league is rapidly moving away from the rough stuff, but on the other hand the get a centre so that adds value. Ultimately a swap of 2 guys on the NHL bubble who may never really make it, but will both thrive in the AHL where I presume they will make most of their starts.

Two Bust first rounders looking for a fresh start. in all likelihood they are both career AHL players but you never know both still have the potential to up their games and try to take that next step to the NHL.

Duds from the 2013 draft who are good in the AHL, so fair deal.

Blockbuster trade. Finally I've been waiting all year for this trade to happen.

The winner is actually the Canucks, who got a decent player for Shinkrauk. I mean, Markus Grandlund has played more games since being traded to the Canucks than these two will every play in the NHL combined.

Hate to call player busts. It's the teams that drafted them and expected to be good NHLers who may have made the mistake.
I've seen Rychel enough to think he isn't NHL good enough. Not saying it's his fault. To me he isn't quick enough to an effective NHL player. HIs level skill effort and competence works somewhat in the AHL, but not in the NHL. Best luck to both guys with their new teams.

You have to think this deal is becasue Shinkaruk didn't want to sign with Calgary and Rychel either didn't want to sign with Montreal, or couldn't come to terms with them. Fair deal, 23 year old AHLer and former 1st for 23 year old AHLer and former 1st.

Danault was 23 when he was traded to Montreal.. 23 isn't really old enough to be a bust

Danault was already seeing NHL starts at the time of that trade. He isn't the best comparison for these two players.

Nawh not really comparing. I am just saying at 23 he wasn't an NHL player.

WOW

"Hunter Shinkaruk is a scoring PHENOM. He's gonna be a 40 goal guy in the NHL. Montreal clearly won this deal."

I would say Nino Neidereiter would be a better comparison. Seemed like a 1st round bust but after a trade morphed into a decent middle-6 forward. If either of them even get close to Neidereiter’s level then it’s a huge success.

I would agree, but can you think of any first rounders that passed through waivers that turned out to be anything?

The only successful (or even mildly successful) former first that cleared waivers, that I could find, is Devan Dubnyk, but he was 27 and a goalie.

Yes, but Danault was so much farther along the development path than these two. Danault was an NHL when he was traded, and arguably could have been the year before if they didn't have a guy named Marcus Kruger playing their fourth line center role on a deep Stanley Cup Champion team.

Skinkrauk and Rychel haven't been able to make the rosters of the Columbus Blue Jackets when they were terrible, the Vancouver Canucks in the last five season, the Calgary Flames, and the Montreal Canadiens who can't score more than two goals in any game...

It's a very specific search... and the data is hard to find. Hickey is still a solid Dman

He never actually played in the AHL after being waiver eligible though.
