Rychel has established himself as accomplished scoring winger in the AHL. While he hasn’t lived up to his work in Juniors and the anticipation that came with his higher draft slot, he is far from a complete bust. His challenge with sticking with teams (4th organization in just 2/3 years) is his consistency. Should he be able to contribute on a week in, week out basis at the AHL he could be a solid bottom-6 replacement for the Flames if & win injury occurs.

Compared to Shinkaruk (also a RFA who he was just traded for), Rychel’s ceiling is a bit higher so if (and it’s a big IF) Rychel can find some consistency to take his game to another level this should be a great contract and a solid trade pick-up.

This was Calgary's way of telling Montreal that they got the better player in the Shinkurak for Rychel deal.
