Who?

AHL roster must be a little light 14 points in 144 NHL games

Yeah, that's why he's making league minimum on a two-way deal.

Heart Soul and Physicality don't win you games. Points win you games.
I would take a 20 point guy with the emotions of a rock over any heart soul and physicality player who puts up 5 points a season.

its fine to have heart and soul but you are of no use to a team if you don't have any skill. Curtis Lazar is the perfect example

I disagree. Look at what Ryan Reaves has done putting up low points.

ryan reaves is a terrible hockey player.

there are plenty of far better players in the league who put up points as well as be physical. Just because he happened to be on the Knights roster in their inaugural season where they had more depth than any team in the league does not make him a good hockey player. every other player like him is long gone in the NHL he's one of the last surviving members of old style hockey which doesn't work anymore Mcgratten, Bollig, Avery,

Obviously he isn’t being paid “too much”, or signed for too long but that doesn’t mean it can’t be a bad deal. While the Flames have lots of space still, there is a 50 contract limit that Cant be exceeded (for NHL contracts - 1 or 2 ways). Peluso’s day as an NHLer are over so he will almost certainly be playing for the AHL Moose.

Given this likelihood I feel it would have been better to sign him to an AHL contract @150k give or take (a decent salary at the AHL level, particularly given his skill, but he is a veteran so one has to pay him a bit more). He is being guaranteed $150k this season anyways with this NHL contract (and that’s what he is likely to make. If he is playing in the NHL then things have gone very badly for the Flames. This way they get his locker room leadership and he can contribute to the organization without taking up a contract spot needlessly. Several “former” NHL players are now down in the AHL on AHL contracts (e.g. Colin Greening & Rich Clune in Toronto, which won the Calder Cup). Peluso could play a vital role as a player/(informal) coach for the Jets youngsters playing in the AHL.

Nothing. Except being in the right place at the right time.

while you are correct that his NHL days are over there isn't much difference between signing an NHL two way or a AHL contract. Flames are not gonna come anywhere near reaching the 50 contract Limit so there is no need to worry about that. also with the NHL two way if by some terrible tragedy all of our right wings get hurt Peluso can be called upon to play in the NHL. with an AHL contract that's not a possibility. if he is gonna get paid the same either way (150,000) then you might aswell have the back up plan of the super rare off chance that maybe he gets called up.

Ryan Reaves plays like 8 minutes a game, so he's really not doingmuch of anything.
