BIG trade

Created by: cnb17
Team: 2018-19 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 22, 2018
Published: Aug. 22, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The move makes the Pens better for years to come not just "now". The cap space save will allow the Pens to keep players like Hags (for $2mil) Guetzel ($4-5mil), Brassard, Sheahan, and even be players for Patches next year when he goes free agent. Not sure if this works on Chicago's end for their cap but it would be a great move for Pittsburgh.

*Trades roughly $16 million to Chicago*
"Not sure if it works on Chicago's end"
Of course not, the term 'cap hell' was created because of the blackhawks cap situation.

If it wasn't for all the huge contracts Chicago already has to deal with, maybe this could work, but there is no way Chicago can compete long term with 3-$10 million dollar players on their roster.

Chicago is usually lucky to have 16 bucks worth of cap room, not 16m

Seems like an equitable deal.

Anisimov and Boqvist are downgrades to Malkin & Letang, but are younger (and Boqvist with big upside)
The picks would help PIT with filling their pipeline
Pittsburg gets some huge cap relief

Chicago has an older team, so probably not quite as desireable from their end.
They still have several older players underperforming to salary that they would need to unload.

I cannot give any constructive Criticism here. Like... no comment on how BAD of a deal this is for Pittsburgh

It's a dumb deal for both teams.

Hawks fan here.

Hmm...you're probably going to have to take Seabrook's contract and retain half of Malkin's. But it could work.

You probably want to see the entire left side of the deal for Malkin only or Letang only.
It could be a 1st pick off or another player/prospect off.
Both are starting to show their age a bit as far as durability goes, but who knows, maybe they can both go strong until their 40.

haha no one wants a cap dump of letang........he sucks now and he's signed for 4 years......yikes... but malkin alone could get you something close to this but if you add letang then you'd have to take seabrook back.....pens fans still think its pre stroke letang and its not he's not great.......and that cap hit is awful

I love how clueless 90% of people are on this site. They like to use one bad year (which wasn’t even that bad) as a sample size to determine if a player is bad or good. You’re the kind of guy who thought giroux was done, Kopitar was done, kessel was done, etc...

are you the type of guy who was waiting for Giroux to move to wing for this conversation? I mean I'm pretty sure 90% of people would agree that Giroux season was surprising and 100% due to him moving to wing but solid point

ive consistently said kessel is underrated on this site him and backstrom

and kopitar had. a solid year..... so did Perron....wild bill......I mean you said people like to use one bad year but you are praising guys for having one up year....seems like a contradiction imo

yeah letangs points are steadily going down ten point drop from his last full season to this one and 2x the giveaways........hell have solid points w that power play but eye test would tell you he's a liability but you know better and aren't clueless

-9 89 giveaways isn't exactly great.....esp with the team he's on....now if he played on a bottom 10 team I would understand but he doesn't.......

Like I said, he struggled this season, look at how he has been every other year though. He also did not have a full offseason to train due to injury. Letang physically is capable of playing his best hockey (15/16 letang). I expect a 65 point season out of him while logging 25+ mins/night. Letang is in incredible shape and baring any more injuries, he will be able to play elite hockey into his mid thirties.

Letang alone could get Pittsburgh that return, add DeBrincat and take out Letang and then that's a fair trade just for Malkin

terrible terrible terrible, terrible.

This trade is terrible for both, it doesn't come close to making the cap work for Chicago(they would have like 50million committed to six players) If the cap was high enough they would be all over the deal.
the pens downgrade significantly at multiple positions and all they get in return is one first and a couple seconds which is basically a bag of pucks compared to what they are giving up.

If you think this trade is in any way shape or form a good trade then its not worth debating with you, much more concerned with teaching you how to spell the city of your one and only rival. I think maybe your brain will be able to handle that conversation a little easier.
