Habs are more than likely to be out of the playoff picture by the trade deadline, so i drew up a couple trade scenarios:

CBJ - i know a lot of people have made a big deal about the Patches vs. Torts feud, but they know that Panarin is leaving and they'd be smart to recoup some assets for him before he walks. In order to remain competitive they'll need a replacement, which is where Patches comes in. Can slot in for Panarin in the lineup, and would leave CBJ coming out of the swap with a greater asset mix. Murray seems to have fallen out of the top 4 in Columbus, with Nuutivaara stepping up. Gives Habs a defence project who could blossom into a solid top-4 contributor.

EDM - assuming Edmonton is in the hunt, they acquire a speedy rental winger who can kill penalties and has been good for 20 goals a season.

SJS - defence depth for playoffs, player they are familiar with at the cost of a 7th (or throwaway prospect), Habs could be willing to take an expiring contract back.

CHI - assuming they are in the hunt, they acquire a familiar player and scoring depth for the price of a good prospect on the verge of joining the NHL club and a mid round pick.
