Still need some things to contend

Created by: TotheNorth

Initial Creation Date: Aug. 20, 2018

Description
3 way deal with DET and OTT:

OTT in: Athanasiou, Myers, Petan, +2nd for Karlsson rental
OTT out: Karlsson

Get some young players for Karlsson. Myers can play RHD to fill the void to start the season and then be traded at the deadline for another 1st + prospect and have the Karlsson saga be over with.

DET in: Trouba, Copp, swap of 1sts w/WPG
DET out: Athanasiou, Hronek, swap of 1sts w/WPG

Gets a top pairing RHD which they hope Hronek could some day become. Trouba likely re-signs in DET as he's from there and they also get a steady underrated C/role player in Copp. They give up Hronek who could one day become Trouba but no guarentees, Athanasiou whos a solid middle six winger and a downgrade of 1sts (likely) by about 10-15 spots.

WPG in: Karlsson, Hronek, swap of 1sts w/DET
WPG out: Trouba, Copp, Petan, Myers, 2nd, swap of 1sts w/DET

Gets a top pairing RHD rental in Karlsson who could be the best in the game, a potential replacement for Trouba down the road in Hronek and an improvement in draft position (likely) by about 10-15 spots. They also move on from the Trouba situation while still giving them cup contender status for this year and a potential replacement in 2-3 years in Hronek. They do have to give up a lot but They may lose Trouba for nothing in 2 years anyways so it's a gamble for the now. They likely can't re-sign Karlsson with all their upcoming RFAs but they might be able to make it work.

I don't think Ottawa does it. They will see: 3rd liner, rental, cant crack lineup, 2nd for Karlsson. It needs to have at least Vesalainen and a 1st in that deal instead of Myers. Winnipeg is currently robbing both teams.

Swap Hronek with Cholowski and make it 2nd round picks and you have yourself a deal.

That detroit first should be going to Ottawa, not Winnipeg. And even then...

I like this trade from the Detroit side, as much as it pains me to lose Hronek (or Cholo as Mr. Bears suggests). I also don't like dealing 1st rounders given the state of the team. The other thing I can't help but think on for this trade is why not just wait? I don't see a long term deal being reached next year with Trouba either and expect him to go UFA the following year. Detroit will be full into their upswing by then and everyone knows Trouba is one of the players that would love to come home (according to an old Bobcast last year).
