Yeah, decent value but the fit is wrong. Det is probably looking for picks and or prospects. But most importantly that extra cap space.

I know...I think it's kind of funny that so many fans are calling for AA to be dealt. Cap space isn't an issue anymore, I fully expect to see Anisimov finish the season in Chicago. That being said, he'll likely centre the third line with Schmaltz taking over the 2C duties. I wouldn't be surprised to see AA dealt in the summer after his NTC expires and he receives is signing bonus, assuming of course Stan has a plan to replace him.

Funny how things work out. A few years ago, Chicago, basically, lost their top 4 LW from the ‘15 Cup team. In my opinion, the worst trade was Johns and Sharp for Daley and Garbutt. Yes, the Hawks gained a little bit of cap space but in the end had absolutely nothing else. That summer and season was “brutal”...

Chicago has made some very questionable moves these past years which has led to them to finishing in the lottery this past season. Couple that with players being injured and players declining massively.

I'd still do it all again if it meant winning a couple cups like they did though.

Today’s NHL requires much more than loyalty. General managers, with consent from their higher ups, have to be mindful, first and foremost, of the cap and not speculate where it might be. Chicago fell into this trap big time! Just as important, teams have to “know when to hold ‘em, know when to fold ‘em, know when to walk away”. The Hawks have treated their players, at times, like possessions and not assets. I’m not against keeping/overpaying Cup winners who are fan favorites; just be extremely careful and diligent in that regard.

Toronto is a present team on the cusp of returning to glory while being faced with crucial choices. Nylander seems to be in the crosshairs. I believe they could sign him (as well as Matthews and Marner) and continue their rise. Or they could move this hot commodity for another need on the blue line. I suggested a trade with Buffalo, for instance. They have several options and are in a great place, now and in the near future. Other teams, like Winnipeg, are in the same boat. And then there is the wonderful story of Washington! They moved on from two key forwards and two key dmen from their Prez Trophy rosters yet were able to string together 16 all important wins in the second season last year.

Yup agreed. I wonder how much an owner would force a GM's hand though? For example Chicago, what if Rocky Wirtz forced Bowmans hand when he advised against it? No one will ever know I guess but I wonder if its ever gotten to that.

When I used to frequent CBH.com, many of the posters there simply felt Stan Bowman was not capable on his own to be making all of the decisions one would hope a general manager would be given reign over. No idea of its validity so it really may not be fair for me to be so critical of the guy. He just never seemed to do things in a straight line. In the aftermath of the ‘15 win and throughout the following season, look back as to how many trades it took for him to complete that year. Two steps forward, one back (or vice versa). The team has had success during his tenure, much of the time in spite of his body of work. That’s why when he traded Panarin and Hjalmarsson last summer, I actually gave him credit because those were HIS moves. He felt convicted and compelled to make some drastic changes with the future in mind. It didn’t work out so well in ‘17-18 for several other factors but Bowman tried some uncharacteristicly bold moves for him. He is in uncharted waters right now with some actual cap space but is wanting to save a bulk of that for Schmaltz and DeBrincat. Smart on his part. Whether it pays off or even if he is still around is another story. You may wonder about Bergevin (and others about their team’s GMs). Those 31 guys do cut-throat business with each other all the time but all should be accountable to at least their respective owners/checkbooks.
