I would probably do your trade if Isles - if CBJ my start offer is Beauvillier, Toews OR Aho, Vande Sompel, and a 3d. Obviously has to come with extension. I don't know if I move a big asset, like Dobson or Walhstrom, but maybe. Panarin is legit star.

if panarin is willing to sign an extension with NYI, then you can just sign him in the summer.

if he's not willing to sign an extension with NYI, why are you making this trade

according to the athletic his shortlist is nyi, nyr, tbl, fla, la, and dal, so he'd be willing to sign. just be easier to make a trade bc you cant have both panarin and lee long term and they beat nyr to the punch

The clock isn't ticking on CBJ. CBJ is in a win now mode and if they think Panarin gives them the best chance to win, they don't make a trade. It's kinda of fantasy that good teams are in a panic to trade their upcoming UFAs. The only benefit to having Panarin at the TDL is you could offer him a eight year deal to age 36 as opposed to a seven year age to age 35. Does it make that much difference? Isles couldn't persuade Tavares to stay for an extra year.

win now mode? CBJ? what what what??????

This is one of the youngest teams in the league. It's a team still growing. Like all their best players are 26 and younger except for Bob. If you take out Panarin it's probably like 24.
This team is no where near win now mode. Come at me when they are like 30.

What this team really needs is more young talent so as the younger core ages, they have a good young core to back them up. That's how you build a good team. They have the pieces in place to be a real contender in the next few years if they don't screw it up.

The best thing this team can do is trade Panarin and Bob out for a 1st and A+ prospect. Which they can probably get at deadline. They would be wise to do that and build for the future. In 2-3 years they can be a real power house.

Panarin gave the Blue Jackets a sep. 13 deadline to settle all contract issues. Whether that means he is traded or signed, he doesn't seem to care, he just wants it settled. He has the Islanders on his six team shortlist of teams he'd be willing to sign an extension with. That's what this post is about.

What I was suggesting is that CBJ is a top contender in the East this year with their current lineup. 99% of the time contenders don't weaken themselves by trading for futures. Trading Bob and Panarin would certainly piss off the current players on the team and the fans.

its a necessary evil, if they don't trade them they risk being uncompetitive for several years. These are the two guys that make them good, they don't have replacements on standby in the organization

Sign and trades are pure fantasy land! Like JT, upcoming UFA stars finally have a choice of city, team and term. He'll let GMs wine and dine him, and NYR have cap space... If I was OTT, NYI,...I'd stay clear of potential fire hazards! Seriously! Just imagine trading for Pan and watching him walk at seasons end!!!#*\!~¥!

Columbus is a playoff team before and after this trade. If Panarin has gone public with his plan of not being in Columbus next year, but Anders Lee remains humble and open to signing wherever, then Columbus might see Panarin for Lee plus a bunch of whatever as a reasonable way of staying competitive for longer. Lee is an unknown quantity right now in that he's been consistently great in his even strength goal totals but hasn't been tested much on power plays and hasn't been tested at all on a team without a top ten center. It's possible, although unlikely that with or without this trade Lee puts up more goals than Panarin next year. So that makes it intriguing.

Even if you don't have guys in the organization ready, you have all kinds of cap space to spend on other players. Gee, CBJ was competitive before Panarin, they can competitive without him.

let me just stop you right there. CBJ has never been a top contender.
They aren't a top contender this year, they weren't last year, and they weren't a year before that.
Lets be honest about the situation. The 3 top contenders in the east are Toronto, TB, and the Pens. Period. All 3 teams are very deep.
on the next Tier you got Boston and Washington.
then below that you have columbus.
I'm not hating on Columbus I'm being honest. This is a team that has yet to get out the 1st round.
Their current roaster doesn't make me think they will this year either.
They have Good very Good young pieces on this team. What they need is more Good young help. So it can come in in 2-3 years while the young core they have now is at their peek. Then you will see a chance at this team really competing for a cup.
Teams like Boston, and the Penguins will have aged out by then. TB and some of the talent in Toronto will be hitting the other side of 30. But Columbus will be right where they need to be.
They need to play the long game.

is one of those "red lines" that everyone walks across and no one cares about.
I mean really. last I saw he said he wasn't sure he wanted to stay in columbus. Not sure what that was all about. Probably, columbus is the middle of no where, his model gf can't find work there, and he has to play for Tortz.
So if he as to whenever to be traded, is he going to sit. I doubt it. He wasn't going to resign anyway.
