Description
After another tanking year, the wings have found themselves with 3 1st RD picks with trading Nyqvist to Anaheim and Vanek to Edmonton.

Tho Vanek has a tainted trading clause I had only picked a random west coast team. With Nyquist, it only makes sense he goes to a contender like Anaheim who has aging wingers who can score but not as much as they has used to. Putting Nyqvist on a line with Rakell ( Assuming he moves to C ) and a vet like Cogliano or Eaves. Leaving your top line with Kase, Getzlaf and Perry. ( Pretty scary )

By now the wings are grooming Larkin to become the next wings captain and solidifying his place as a cornerstone for the franchise, thats why he deserves first line PP minutes over Nielsen.

Rookies like Pope and Turgeon will likely be called up after Nyquist and Vanek are shipped off allowing them to start meshing with the younger generation of Wings. Svechnikov will start as a 3rd liner but quickly will be promoted to at least the 2nd and earn him a spot on the PP.

With the aging blue line collapsing from all around, the wings will bring up at least two prospects whether its Hicketts, Cholowski, Hronek or even Sulak. They won't get as much special team minutes but will occasionally jump in to learn from some Mentors like Ericsson, Kronwall etc.

We aren't gonna talk about the graveyard which is the existing D-core.

Howard and Bernier are a solid tandem in net, not Murray and Fleury like but still able to keep some pucks out of the net. Jimmy has one year left on his deal, I don't expect the Wings to move him ( even though he has some value ) they enjoy keeping their older homegrown vets as mentors for upcoming prospects, Kronwall and Hicketts ( or whoever ), Zetterberg and Larkin and even Datsyuk and Abdelkader so it wouldn't be entirely out of the picture the resign Howard fro another year so he can teach guys like Fulcher or Petruzelli.

For prospects like Rasmussen and Zadina, give them one last year in their respective junior teams to dominate rather than bringing them up to a basement team and risk putting their morale and confidence in jeopardy. They could easily make the jump to the AHL this season but not to the NHL.

I could also foresee the wings moving some pieces around at the draft for a defensive prospect if the price is right.

The goal is Hughes v2, but Kaapo, Newhook or a solid D man would be a great asset for this seemingly speedy rebuild.
Trades
1.
DET
  1. 2019 1st round pick (ANA)
  2. 2021 2nd round pick (ANA)
ANA
  1. Nyquist, Gustav
  2. 2019 7th round pick (ARI)
Additional Details:
Anaheim will want a scoring winger who can keep up with Guys like Rakell and Kase. Though the wings are going for a rebuild they'll probably try for more (Tatar to VGK) so they'll likely have to give ups later pick in the upcoming draft.
2.
DET
  1. 2019 1st round pick (EDM)
EDM
  1. Vanek, Thomas
  2. 2021 5th round pick (DET)
Additional Details:
As an aging vet, Vanek will have the treat to play with either McDavid or Leon. A bit better setting than Detroit, he'll quickly adapt and become an immediate threat on the poweplay. Just him alone wouldn't be enough for the first so the wings would have to sweeten the pot just a bit.
3.
DET
  1. 2020 6th round pick (WPG)

As much as I like Vankek, you can't expect to get that much for him. He had a really good season last year, and the return for him was Tyler Motte and Jussi Jokinen. Motte wasn't considering a great prospect, he isn't even expected to make the canuck line up this year, and it's not the hardest roster to make. And Jokinen was just for the roster spot. Now obviously the Canucks didn't get full value for him. But you can't expect a 1st rounder. If he has another decent season he might get you a 2nd rounder. The Nyquist trade is fine though

Your playing guys out of position for guys that play multiple positions including the ones where you have the players out of position... also Cholowski will be on the team by then.

I like the Nyquist trade, but have to agree with the sentiment on Vanek. We had him two years younger and only got a 3rd for him last time. Even with team's being desperate, I predict only a 2nd at best for Vanek come deadline time. As for Jensen, I think he is better than a 6th and would rather they keep him and let a youngster take Kronwall's spot at season's end. If anything, I think Jensen is good enough to pick up a 4th or even a 3rd since he is relatively young, can put up some offense and skates well.

laugh You're not getting a 1st for Vanek, Besides it's already been reported that he wont waive. That's why Holland gave him a full NTC for the life of his contract? And no way Nyquist waives for Anaheim. His Wife is a Detroit girl that teaches school in Metro Detroit he will waive for a possible eastern cup contender. That's it.

With Z's career likely over, There's a good chance of Zadina making the opening night lineup. Rasmussen is definitely on the opening night lineup. Zero chance of Svechnikov making it on the opening nightlineup same with Pope and besides Pope is a 4th liner not a top 6 player any ways.

That's not why Vanek got his NTC. He said, his agent said, and Holland said that Vanek wanted control over the process, so he could pick his team if he were to be traded. The last 2 years, without an NTC, he had to go where ever. This give him a chance to say "I want to go to a contender, not someone fighting to make the playoffs".

Rasmussen isn't allowed to play in the AHL. One more year in the WHL is going to do wonders for his development. @@

Yea, the Vanek trade was entirely based off the fact that Edmonton has a clown as a GM who traded Hall for Larsson so I agree a 2nd is more likely. He signed an NMC which can be waived if all goes right. Holland understands that the windows closing on Svechy and Pope. Also this is at the end of next season.
