I'll try to go at this from a more constructive angle than the others for your sake as you're kind of getting roasted.
Never plan to have your players take a discount. If you are relying on it, you are setting yourself up to fail when reality kills your idea. If they do take discounts like Tavares did, it will be a small one, and a nice surprise. Don't forget just how much money we were willing to pay JT just a few months back. The Nylander and Marner deals are smaller discounts that are explainable, but I want to focus in the Matthews one. In a perfect world where Chirelli did not exist, McDavid would be making like 10 on a 5 or 6 year deal, Eichel about 8, and Matthews somewhere in between. But the reality we live in had desperate GM's hand over massive contracts out of rfa, so Matthews will want the same (which is fair).
Tl;dr don't rely on discounts, take them as a bonus in your planning. On the trade: don't trade sandin. He projects to be very good. Marleau won't waive as he wants to win, and no one wants zaitzev's contract unless he rebounds, in which case why trade him.
