hold up, let me go make a bruins one where they sign seguin and panarin for minimum wage, trade a 3rd rounder for doughty, and carlo and mcavoy extend for a million each. somehow i'll find a way to make them only have 1 million in cap room and no healthy scratches.

Not only are the signings horrible but the trade is too. No way Toronto gives that up for a minus Dman like Faulk. We might as well trade Freddy for Darling and just call it a night.

This team is worse off on the blue line and I’m pretty sure that every player we sign doesn’t cough up a million or more to sign panarin We do not need any more offence!!!!!!

We are trying to build a winning team under that cap not pick an all star team!!!!

Teams with a roster of 20, are over the fictional 85m cap....never even get to PLAY again.
I don't know why Leaf fans...and I'm one think even that the big 3 or any player takes a pay discount. Maybe a player veteran player who has made a tens of millions signs as 32 year old "filler" contract but that's it.

I'll try to go at this from a more constructive angle than the others for your sake as you're kind of getting roasted.
Never plan to have your players take a discount. If you are relying on it, you are setting yourself up to fail when reality kills your idea. If they do take discounts like Tavares did, it will be a small one, and a nice surprise. Don't forget just how much money we were willing to pay JT just a few months back. The Nylander and Marner deals are smaller discounts that are explainable, but I want to focus in the Matthews one. In a perfect world where Chirelli did not exist, McDavid would be making like 10 on a 5 or 6 year deal, Eichel about 8, and Matthews somewhere in between. But the reality we live in had desperate GM's hand over massive contracts out of rfa, so Matthews will want the same (which is fair).

Tl;dr don't rely on discounts, take them as a bonus in your planning. On the trade: don't trade sandin. He projects to be very good. Marleau won't waive as he wants to win, and no one wants zaitzev's contract unless he rebounds, in which case why trade him.

No Toronto GM would trade Zaitsev or Sandin even up for Faulk and his minus 26. We might take him as part of a package (think Teravainen) but only if we could then flip him to Arizona or Edmonton (or someone else who really wants him).

STOP F'ING TRADING SANDIN.

MY GOD YOU PEOPLE DO NOT GET IT.

Do you people trading Sandin literally have no idea about the Leafs hires, where Dubas came from, and where Sandin played? They are not trading Sandin, especially within the first few years of drafting him.

MY FREAKING GOD THIS DRIVES ME UP A F'N WALL.
