Masin and Volkov make the roster; is this realistic?

Team: 2018-19 Tampa Bay Lightning
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 26, 2018
Published: Sep. 3, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Dominik Masin was the Crunch's best defenseman last season, being great offensively (without PP time) and really good defensively. He also plays a size-based, physical style, which the Lightning need. Overall, while it's still a long shot, I think he has a chance at training camp.

Meanwhile, Volkov almost made it last season, and was the Crunch's best scorer this season. He's almost certain to make the NHL at some point, and he's been predicted to make it past training camp before.

The Leafs have the cap space to pay the last year of Coburn's contract, and may benefit from a serviceable veteran defenseman in case prospects don't pan out or something. They can get him at a minimal cost due to the Lightning's cap.

I'm not sure if Montreal gives that 2nd round pick (I'm honestly not sure how it got into the trade, but there's no edit button unless I want to revert the entire thing, so take it as you will). Paquette is an expendable center, and Stephens is probably the Lightning's best center prospect. Considering how much Montreal has limited Pacioretty's value, I think that kind of return is what they should expect. Pacioretty also helps add size to the Lightning, and he can definitely score. That being said, I don't know exactly what Montreal is looking for (assuming Johnson doesn't want to go and Cirelli's off the table) here.

The Edmonton trade is probably unrealistic, but I figure if we're not using those pieces, we may as well try to get a little bit of an upgrade in the draft from it. Yzerman doesn't really covet first round picks as much as some GMs, but he does value 2nd and 3rd round picks, and would want to get as close to the top of the 2nd round as possible (since that's much cheaper than trying to get a potential lottery pick). I have no idea if Edmonton, or any other team, cooperates.

The Lightning also get a little bit of breathing room on the cap, in case they want to do anything at the deadline.

The 2nd round pick from Montreal wasn't supposed to be in the trade, but I have no idea what Montreal is looking for or how much they can get at this point (since they've already handcuffed themselves by announcing that they won't re-sign Pacioretty). Pacioretty was the major trade, so I don't really know what to offer. Do they need a roster player, or do they want prospects to rebuild with? The Lightning don't want to break up chemistry, but they'd be willing to offer some fairly good prospects (probably better than the ones I put in here, since I was specifically trying to get in a center and LW).

I'm not sure if the Leafs are a good team for the Coburn contract, but I'm sure there's someone in the League who would take a serviceable veteran defenseman for one season at almost no cost.

As for the Edmonton trade, it's probably stupid, but it would definitely be nice if we could get something of value for the remainder of our expendable assets. Dotchin and Erne are still good prospects.

that's kind of insulting to Montreal. just because you're sending a couple french players doesn't mean they'll accept.

Stephens isn't French, and that definitely was not my reasoning behind Paquette and Bournival. Johnson has an NTC, I don't think Yzerman would be willing to move Cirelli, and Point and Stamkos are out of the question for obvious reasons, so that leaves Paquette as our best expendable NHL center. Stephens is definitely one of the top few center prospects we have. But I'm not entirely familiar with what Montreal is asking for with Pacioretty. I've seen rumors of Paquette to Montreal on Twitter that basically just argue that Montreal desperately needs a center (although Twitter users aren't exactly known for being knowledgeable about those kinds of things). The 2nd round pick from Montreal was not supposed to be included, and obviously that makes the trade ridiculously skewed even for Bergevin, but even without the pick, there's clearly not enough value for Montreal (I was thinking it probably wasn't before, and the responses have confirmed that). I think Pacioretty would compliment the Lightning fairly well, though, and I don't know what to give to Montreal for a rental. If their asking price is too high, we might as well stand pat or start looking at Panarin.

Maybe Tampa has an assistant coach in the ECHL and a minor administrative assistant who are "French" they can be include in the trade and voila the Habs have a new head coach and GM.

PProspects + Picks for Pacioretty.. Try like 1st + Cal Foote for example. That is the price anyways... we can all predict what they will actually get, but that is the asking price

I can’t imagine Yzerman doing anything like that for a rental, but I guess if that’s what they’re asking for (which wouldn’t be surprising considering Pacioretty’s stats, particularly those before last season), the negotiations probably end there. Obviously I way overestimated how much one bad season and Bergevin’s announcements have affected Pacioretty’s value to them.

Why would the Habs want Bournival back, when they let him walk for nothing two years ago?

Rumours are that Patch wants to sign long term (per his agent) so it's not a must trade situation.. I imagine he is gonna wait until TD and if he csn't trade him, he will just resign him
