i love when people come to a site where you're inputing fantasy trades and give people **** rankings because and i quote ''that wont happen '' . . .
well thank you Captain obvious, right ?

Offer sheet on Mathews might be worth it to a dying franchise being passed around ARZ like an unwanted step child and really struggling .
a Local boy like Mathews might be worth four 1st's to them given their current situation .

plus they could always flip Dvorak or Keller for picks , depending on the package for Dvorak they could probably land two second round picks in the mix as 21 year old centers capable of 1000+ faceoffs with over 51% average aren't available to often and if you wait for the right moment like DET with Tatar you can come out with more then any expert will predict

I don't think teams make offer sheets "just for the heck of it". But it could be a logical decision for as Billy316 said "for a dying franchise". Just taking some. emotion out of it, let's say the Leafs can't/won't match the deal.
The Leafs have to look as the deal as Matthews for the first rounders and Tavares. The reason is they can't afford Matthews is because of the Tavares, so from that point view, losing Matthews isn't so painful.

Pretty much this.... If Arizona offsheets Matthews to that contract then I think turnabout is fair play. Keller is due a serious raise the year after this "offersheet". So while in theory this would be a pretty good way of getting your top C for Arizona, I don't think it'll work out if you plan on keeping keller. As for the roster... that's a pretty good team if you can keep it together

Offer sheeting Matthews definitely puts even more cap pressure on Toronto.
Teams like Edmonton (McDavid/Draisatl) and Buffalo (Eichel & O'Reilly until they let him go), Pittsburgh (Crosby/Malkin) etc. have a much harder time keeping 2 very top tier centers with high salary hit and then a talented team around them. if they matched, (which they would probably have to try), they would lose both Nylander and most likely either Marner Kapanen, even with Horton's LTIR status.

This isn't NHL 18 be a GM. Matthews has to accept the offer sheet and and want to come home. He's gone on record to saying he wants to be a Leaf long term. I don't see him taking an Arizona offer sheet. Not does he do a Tavares 8 years from now? Maybe? I am a Leafs fan and it would pain me but it's not like the situation with John leaving NYI. Leafs are sick, you're playing in hockey mecca, I great supporting cast on the team and they have had great success early in Matthew's career already. I think something earth shattering would have to happen for him to ever leave Toronto. I don't see it, and I don't think regardless Arizona is in a position to dedicate 120 million to a player. Just for starters.

Dubas is a magician too by the way. He's an outside of the box thinker, he will keep Toronto attractive for all core players.

It'll never happen given Arizona's financial situation and what you mentioned above, but I just wanted to have fun with the idea of it happening. I know Toronto will likely find a way to keep both. If Matthews went to Arizona it would be as a free agent, not right now.
