Description
This post is purely for fun and not very realistic.

The Ottawa trade is probably the most realistic trade here. If we cleared cap like I have below, getting Stone long-term would make a lot of sense. His skating is definitely not great, but he was over a PPG player last season and is undoubtedly skilled. From the words of our coach, "Ryan Suter has looked like Ryan Suter", so moving Brodin could be a possibility once the season begins.

I know Sanheim is coveted in Philly, but they have 4 LHD in their top 4... Moving Sanheim for a top pairing quality RHD wouldn't hurt them (I know that Gostisbehere is your top pairing RD, I'm just saying Spurgeon is a top pairing quality player). Philly needs a 3C and they get exactly that in Pageau. Simmonds is a rental in this trade, so he'd be free to return to Philly after a season if he desires. Kunin would replace Simmonds spot on the roster next season so the Wild wouldn't be inclined to re-sign him.

Now for the biggest trade in this post... Dallas would be insane to trade Seguin and even more insane to trade him in the division, but they get a pretty insane package coming back here (3 players that could all play on the 1st line). The Stars as a whole need depth in their lineup and by adding 3 top 6 players they do exactly that. One thing to note here is that they would definitely have to move some players elsewhere to help out with cap (moving Spezza would immediately fix this problem). The Wild lack right shot top 6 forwards (I think I've typed those words a million times on here) and they get superstar center Tyler Seguin (though he doesn't come cheap, that's for sure). Jake Oettinger would be a huge addition given our situation with goalie prospects (added bonus that he's "one of us").

In my description I mentioned why they would trade for him. You're right, they probably don't need him but their top 4D are all lefties, so adding Spurgeon gives them a little more versatility.

Agreed, but playing defenseman on their off-side isn't ideal. It has worked for Gostisbehere but generally defenseman aren't as good out of their natural position. I edited my comment after you quoted it, Philly doesn't need Spurgeon but he's a nice addition for them.

I agree that Dallas trade would be a massive one! However, while Seguin was disappointed he wasn’t extended yet, I believe talks are progressing to that end. (He still could be dealt after re-signing, tho.). Staal has indicated Minny is a perfect place for him right now. He may not choose to include Dallas on his trade list. Overall, not too shabby moves.

Maybe that for Stone...but a 3rd AND Pageau? Stone is an elite top 10 right winger in the league and I don't care if he is a free agent next summer, he is a very very good player and you'll probably need more than Brodin to get him.

I absolutely agree with your assessment on defensemen playing on their opposite handed sides. Yes, it can and does work but isn’t ideal in their own zone especially. Also, moving the puck out of the zone with d2d passing is much more fluid when on natural sides. On offense, as also with PPs, it might be a different story.

Thank you! Yep this trade would never happen realistically, I think Fenton would fall over in his chair if he saw it, lol. I personally think Seguin will be in Dallas next season but it's still fun to make trades for him smile

I think you're underestimating how good Brodin is. He is absolutely capable of playing a top pairing role (though I think Chabot will already take that role in Ottawa) and he still has room to grow. Stone is good (I don't think he's a top 10 RW though) but there's no way he is staying in Ottawa and other teams know that so they're going to give Ottawa lowball offers (since they can just convince him to come in free agency they won't be willing to give considerable assets). I did give more than Brodin, Ottawa is without a 1st rounder and they pick one up here.
