Bergevin came in with a 24 years old Max Pacioretty, 23 years old PK Subban, 25 years old Carey Price, and a 3rd overall pick. Now 6 years later, this.

I mean, it's a decent return for Pacioretty, and this means rebuild. But just the fact that he wasted all that talent hurts so much. Will never forgive the Subban and Sergachev trades.

Montreal comes out well and Vegas loses. 2 1st round picks (Veleno and Suzuki), 2 2nd round picks, and a 3rd round pick for Pacioretty is a pretty big loss when put in perspective

Also put into perspective how Vegas got Suzuki and the 2019 2nd. Columbus sent the 2017 1st (Suzuki) 2019 2nd (just traded to habs) and Clarkson to Vegas in exchange for selecting William Karlsson. Vegas did trade a lot to get Tatar (1st, 2nd and 3rd round picks). So overall perspective heres the trade:

To Vegas: Pacioretty, Karlsson, Clarkson
To Montreal: Tatar, 2017 1st (Suzuki) 2019 2nd
To Detroit: 2018 1st (#30 Valeno) , 2019 2nd, 2021 3rd
To Columbus: expansion draft considerations

Gotta say Vegas comes out well. Not overly a big loss considering how they received the assets from Columbus and how many draft picks they acquired during the expansion draft.

I love how I go from reading about how good Suzuki is, seen folk on some sites saying he and a 1st are an overpay for EK, to seeing people talk about how much of a bum he is and how MTL got ripped off so horribly.

It just had to happen. Thank you for everything Captn. Patches!

Now back to the trade.
A 30 Goal Scorer for a 20 Goal Scorer, a pretty decent Centre Prospect and a 2nd round pick.

I think its a fair deal. Bergy gets rid of a player that he hates and Vegas gets Firepower.

I think this is a terrific trade for the Vegas Golden Knight. They get a guaranteed goal scorer who is a leader both on and off the ice. They get a terrific hockey player in Pacioretty who just nails down a top 6 spot on Left Wing. They are in WIN NOW mode so now is the time to add a player like Max and keep in mind EK might also be on his way to Vegas as well. The Canadiens get a Mid-2nd Round pick which most likely they will botch under this current GM. They also get Thomas Tatar which Vegas paid a lot for but didn't work out so getting rid of him is very smart. Hire slow fire fast model should be used more in business. BUT where Montreal scores in this trade is landing Nick Suzuki because he is a very good hockey player in all aspects of the game. Terrific shooter and scorer who sees the ice very well and makes plays. Nick is a guy who makes others around him better. Vegas did not want to trade him away but they know that it will take a few years for Nick to fill out and get physically stronger because he is a smaller framed kid. So basically this deal is for Nick of the future for Max of the present. Both teams win here but I think Vegas WINS NOW which is most important. I am personally very happy for Pacioretty to be out of Montreal. HMMM...Don't be surprised if Erik Karlsson ends up in Vegas now.

Right now, Vegas wins this trade. In the long run, especially with the talent we saw fall in he 2018 draft, Montreal wins without a doubt. Vegas gets a great goal scorer and leader, Montreal gets a good 3rd-2nd liner, a great prospect, and an opportunity to pick up talent in the second round

Guys I think the expectations were so low on this return that people think Montreal won. Montreal still didn't win the deal, but the return was better than expected.

I hope other people on here read the trade. That we we can stop seeing lame trades on here like Panarin for Backes and krug.
You got to give to get what you want.
Was it a high price, A+ prospect, 2nd and a decent roaster player. I think it's about fair if Patches can pull it back together, He's not over 30 yet.
If I were to Habs I'd make it, if I'm vegas probably not.

Elite Prospect + 2nd Round Pick + consistant 20 goal scorer?
Come on.. we both know who won this trade.

We got this for a guy who was going to walk in 10 months

Fair Deal. Vegas gets a top line winger with 40 goal potential. Montreal gets a good winger, who can hopefully regain his form and score 20, a top center prospect, and a 2nd. So Montreal downgrades their winger for Suzuki and a 2nd, and Vegas upgrades their winger for the same.

I'm actually in the boat that it was a good for both teams. Vegas is still a championship contender and replaced the loss of Neal with another 30 goal scorer. Montreal got some solid pieces to continue to build with and who knows, maybe Suzuki makes the jump with how bad Montreal is. In the end, both teams filled a need.

MTL get their legit Center prospect (a right shooting one to boot!) in Suzuki, and a replacement for Patches in Tatar (who could always be flipped for more assets) + 2nd rd pick.

Not sure how any Habs fan can be disappointed with the return. Will miss Patches. He is legitimately one of the elite wingers of the league, and will most likely tear it up with either Marcheseault or Karlsson as his Center. At least MTL can look forward with a center squad around Kotkaniemi, Suzuki, and Poehling. Depth chart at Center looks great now.

**** Bergevin, plz just FIRE HIM...

as for the trade....Not terrible but compared to what the NYR got for Nash, Bruins for Lucic or even the Jets for Ladd this trade still lacks a bit of value.

I see Montreal being big winners here. Although Tatar didn’t have a good run w Vegas after he got traded, he’s still capable of being a 40 point player. Once he gets his numbers back up, Montreal can retain salary on Tatar and get some more assets there. Nick Suzuki is an amazing prospect as well. He’s one of the most defensively responsible forwards in the OHL, and he put up 100 points to go along with it. Throw in a 2nd round draft pick and it’s a great return for Montreal.

All this for a guy who (in all likelihood) wasn’t going to resign. Montreal should’ve had zero leverage in this negotiations and they still came out with an incredible return, especially Suzuki. I never thought I’d say this, but good deal by Bergevin

Tatar is the X factor. Right now he is three year 5.3m cap dump for Vegas. If he plays well, well it gets Montreal from 5th last overall to 8th last overall. His value might be in a couple of years when Montreal trades him at the TDL.
The second rounder is likely a mid 50s pick so the only real value I see for Montreal is last year's 13th overall Suzuki.
By getting a rental Patches and ridding themselves of Tatar, Vegas has set themselves up next year for a UFA signings. Karlsson?

The Golden Knights after losing Neal and Perron get a great goal scorer, and the Canadiens end this whole Pacioretty thing. Probably a good deal.

Tatar is being paid 4.8m for the remainder of his contract... Easier to trade for Montreal.. His contract was top heavy so the team won't be paying him that much anyways. Tatar can easily be dumped (Worse case scenario which won't happen) is needed to. He is still a consistent 20+ goal scorer and will produce with Montreal similar to what he did on Detroit

Habs win straight up. Even if Vegas resigns Patch. MTL got Tatar who yes had a rough season but I trust that he will bounce back. MTL also got a 2nd rd pick and Nick Suzuki a guy who is going to become a strong 2C IMO. Suzuki is gonna be very good. MTL Big win. Finally Bergevin gets it right.
