Tbh that’s an EXCELLENT return for MTL. Suzuki is a future top6 C. Now if they can revive Tatar to a 20G level, you might be able to flip him for more assets, maybe even a 1st depending on how he does.

Oh agreed.. just sad how that all went down. Beside Statsny this season... that is a scary good line.

I have fought a lot of people on this site about his value and I am happy with this return, Tatar will be flipped at the TDL and if we end up in the top 5 then out team will be stacked with prospects, Poehling, Suzuki, and Kotkaniemi for centers and a top 5 pick could add Kaapo RW or Byram LHD. Good move Bergevin

Already one of the best prospect pools in the game. Future is looking a little brighter today. As long as MB doesn't screw it all up for the future Habs should start to improve in 3-4 years.... thats the reality though. We'll be lucky if we score 100 goals next season though. lol

Honestly dont care lol It works out perfect for us either way, we end up with another elite draft pick and Suzuki Poehling and Kotkaniemi will all be ready to try their hand as rookies the next year and probably be ready for another 50-50 year but the turn around should be quick after that

Vegas got Tatar for a 2018 1st, 2019 2nd, and 2021 3rd just last trade deadline. If he can come somewhat back to form, should be able to get a 1st for him.

under the circumstances, I think the Habs did alright here. Not great, but decent. The price is suzuki, but having to take back Tatar probably is the sweetner getting that 2nd rounder.

Thats what I think to, and retaining money could help increase that return. Think by next draft Montreal will have two first round picks and 3 second round picks, Tatar will bring a 1st back (late first), Byron brings in a 2nd and hopefully Benn brings in a 3rd. That means Montreal will have another draft with 5 picks in the first two rounds, which is always a good thing

Hold up... are y'all saying that VGK had to retain and pay MTL a 2nd to take Tatar but he will bring a late first at the deadline?

If you can rebuild Tatars value by giving him a lot of ice time etc, yeah I agree you can flip him especially since his salary is now declining year by year. Prime trade target for a team like Arizona who love cap hit buy not actually monies.

It all depends on what Montreals end game is here. If they tank to get Hughes, I bet they go agressive in UFA at Seguin, Duchene etc. Quick turn around if they can do that

Both teams retained money in the deal. Montreal retained on Pacioretty and VGK retained on Tatar, the difference is that Tatar has a longer contract. They didn't 'pay' them a second to take Tatar, both items were for Pacioretty, that's Pacioretty's value, a pick, prospect and roster player. Tatar was traded last TDL for a first, second and third round pick, so ya he will be able to be flipped at the TDL for another pick, most likely a late first from a contender.

Yeah that makes sense, I think I quoted the wrong guy then.

Was confused about this one

Tatar will get top 6 minutes and if he comes back to his 20-25 goal form then I think he gets another late 1st rounder, Montreal ends up bottom 5, and probably talks to Duchene in UFA dont know how serious those talks would be but I do agree that would be a very quick turn around. It would also decide with what draft pick we get, 1st overall they dont go for Seguin or Duchene in UFA, they end up 4th and take Bowen Byram then you can look to Seguin or Duchene talks.

Its a rebuild year so you have the luxury to mess around with Tatar to see where he fits, but I agree he gets all the opportunity he can in the Top 6 to try to squeeze out 45-50 points again. If he can get back to that range its a nice little deal for Montreal

The guy got traded for a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd round picks last year, retaining salary and trading him to a contender for a 1st round pick isnt a dream, its a reality. Listen more, talk less and you wont look so stupid when you post your opinions

the market changes daily..if tatar has 13 goals and 35 points in February he wont be flipped for a first. His value last year is not his value now and its not his value next year. Who is he playing w? If he doesnt land on the first line then my projection wont be far off if MTL is a bottom end team in producing goals (which is likely) STOOPID
