Dont think Bob signs for less then $9 million. He saw what Carey got and will want to be close
Just because MB grossly over-payed for a goaltender (granted, one of the top G in the league), with a max term contract that kicks in this year at age 31 and takes him to just shy of age 40...doesn't mean that Jarmo, or any other GM would make that same mistake.
So if Jarmo gives up on Bob, this would make the scenario plausible (except for the $8.5M value, Bob wants more).
Jackets would sign Bob for $8.5M if they could, and I don't think Bob would take a discount just to play for Edmonton, since they are Western Conference, much more travel, etc.
Be wary though with older Goaltenders.
The signs are there that Price very well might be on the decline.
Only 12 games played in 15/16. 16/17 was a good year from both GAA and Save %, but 17/18 was 3.11 GAA and .90 save %.
The sad truth is, when a goaltender starts to lose their game (health, ability to see the puck, cover the net laterally, etc.), it usually happens very quickly, much quicker than a skating player.
It doesn't help the team is aging in front of him (Price) either, with a lot of uncertainty with their C depth and the Patches situation (which has now been resolved).
Bob is still healthy, and has excellent training regimen, so he just may go until his mid to late 30s like Brodeur, Hasek, Roy, etc.
Also the trade above doesn't make sense for the CBJ. Since it is not related to the Bob UFA signing above, the Jackets really like Anderson, and do not need to take on Sekera (aging LD with some injury issues and almost $5M salary) just to get Caggiula & a 1st. Anderson may become expendable with the development of some younger players showing their "stuff" now at the Traverse City Prospect Tournament (Robinson, Vigneault, Stenlund, Davidsson, etc.).
If they trade him, they would want pick/prospect without taking on salary of a Sekera.
