How does that Detroit trade make any sense for Montreal? I would imagine McCarron would have to atleast be worth a 3rd Round Pick (really anything else and you might as well let him walk), and Valiev (Who could potientially be a #6 guy) for a 5th and 7th and Kronwall who takes up to much salary and would just create a roadblock for our younger players

Kronwall is there short-term to teach Mete and to take the tough minutes with Karlsson for one more year.

I don't get Bobby Ryan. Maybe with a change of scenery he can handle big minutes again

But this roster is unfinished -- extending Karlsson will require more cap space and it's at the absolute limit.

Melnyk is cheaper than he is proud. He'll cave, they'll trade Karlsson, and then they'll spend some picks to pay another team like Detroit to do Ryan's buyout.

Of course it's moot now, but Karlsson's extension increase would come from Kronwall's contract expiration.
