Yup. Avs are definitely going to give up a 2nd for a guy they let walk in UFA. No chance.

Honestly, people think Karlsson, Duchene and Stone are getting traded for scraps. Three trades will at least net a Nick Suzuki type of player and a 1st rounder (at least). People will just see

I agree! I would expect nothing less.

But chances are they're getting dealt at the trade deadline, which means the Sens aren't going to be getting any roster players.

Yeah because a rental players for a contending team has never happened in the history of the NHL, especially around the trade deadline. No chance.

I mean I have Duchene going for Bean and a 1st, Canes are loaded on D, they have Slavin, Pesce, Hamilton, DeHaan, Fleury, TVR, Fox and Bean. Im sure they could do a prospect and a 1st for a position of need in Duchene.
The Karlsson trade I think isn't that great but its whatever like for sure Karlsson will re-sign in Tampa, that's where he wants to go. Foote is a future, Cirelli could crack a lineup. Callahan is a cap fump and a 1st rounder. For Karlsson, I expect nothing less than 2 great prospects and a 1st.
Stone for Tkachuk, Ottawa would be interested, Stone would definitely re-sign in Calgary maybe they could even take Craig Anderson in the deal for Mike Smith. I mean Stone could've cracked 80pts this year had he not missed 20 games and hes one of the best 2 way wingers in the game and can carry any linemates

Douche is a Looker room cancer. That lowers his price a little. He was also bad at the start of the year in OTT after the trade. Stone and Karlsson probably get more but imo, and this isn’t just cause it’s Carolina that is too much for Duchene. I’d have done Bean and the BUF 2020 3rd tbh but the first is a No

A) he's not a rental. Signed for two more years, a period in which the Avs will have to resign some of their top young guys (Rantanen, Zadorov, Kerfoot, etc.)
B) in what world is Boedker worth a 2nd round pick?

lol i was referring to this comment??

Also in this world,

"On 29 February 2016, Bødker was traded to the Colorado Avalanche in exchange for Alex Tanguay, Conner Bleackley and prospect Kyle Wood"

Bleackley was a former 1st round pick
Wood was a former 3rd round pick

You'd think you'd know this, being an apparent COL Fan and everything.

Bleackley dropped to the 5th round in the 2016 draft after not being signed by either club. Bust. Wood, talented, but Roy didn't think much of him. In Joe's mind, they were giving up two prospects they had no intentions of signing and they were getting back an upgrade Tanguay. So in actuality, the trade was Boedker for Tanguay (retired at the end of the season), Bleackley (a bust of a pick, 5th round), and Wood (3rd round).

You make a good point though and I get what you're saying, but I think there's a difference between trading a pick (unknown value) and trading a prospect in your system who you've evaluated. Plus, hasn't the 2019 draft been touted as being relatively deep with regards to prospects?

That's fair, all I'm saying is that a 2nd is totally reasonable for an experience rental for a contending team, even if he slots in on your 3rd line.

In terms of 2nd round picks, statistically speaking (even within a deep draft), there's a 30% chance that the prospect plays more than 100+ games in the NHL, and a 10% chance (1 prospect every 10 years in theory) that they become a top 6 Forward or top 4 D-men. Which are terrible odds and makes a 2nd round pick much more disposable especially for COL who already have two 1st round picks.

Couldn't agree more. I just don't see Boedker as a rental with two years left at 4 mil. Even with the rising cap, that contract could put certain teams into a situation they don't want to be in. The Avs might be an exception with the cap space they have, but they have a bunch of talented young players coming up who will have to be paid at some point. And I think Joe's taking a long term approach to this. Roy tried to rush things after the 13-14 season, and we all know how that turned out.

Interesting article. Wonder how/if at all those statistics will change in the future with analytics playing a larger role each year.
