What. A. Steal. He signed for far less than what high end centers are getting these days. He's clearly committed to Dallas, and this gives them a good chunk of cap space to pull of an Erik Karlsson trade if they really want it. Amazing.

Wow, I figured he'd get closer to Tavares money, or at least $10 million.

What a deal! could have easily signed for 11M+ on open market. Seguin will only be 35yo when the contract ends too

It seems there's no income tax in Texas.

Also this is a front heavy contract.

Thank you Dallas! Now I can stop hearing the Seguin coming back to Boston rumors from the New England media...
Also, WHAT A GREAT CONTRACT.

Great contract for the Stars. Would have fetched far more on the open market.

No state income tax in Texas. So he's getting Tavares money without the cap hit.

Tavares was UFA. You can't underestimate the leverage that Tavares was able to generate. He had several teams bidding against each other. That's why he got the extra $$$. Also, Tavares only signed for 7 years. Seguin got 8 years b/c he signed an extension w/ his current team-so his total salary is actually $1M more over the length of the contract, albeit for one additional season.

Maybe. You never know what will happen this season in DAL. Tavares had the "perfect storm" of leverage: He had no fewer than 4 teams willing to pay top market retail. He gambled big time and hit. Seguin didn't wanna risk everything for the possibility of an extra $1M AAV. Why would he, unless he wanted out of Dallas? Remember, Tavares really wanted to leave NYI and play for his hometown team.

Oh don't get me wrong, I'm not saying he should have waited to get a better contract. I'm saying the contract is very good for the team, and ofc we know Seguin likes Dallas and really wanted to stay there.

Pretty much exactly what a top line center should be getting paid in this league. Sick of seeing these 10mil+ contracts handed out and screwing with the cap.

If the cap goes up, why shouldn't the contract values?

It's fine if it is a reasonable increase. But these past few seasons of large contract handouts haven't been in line with the cap increase, and if anything are pushing the cap increase.

He's a goal scorer who just keeps getting stronger with the puck. This deal was expected and is good for both parties.
