The narrative that Karlsson is bad in his own zone is oversold, anyways. Karlsson is just as solid at playing defense as most of the "elite" defenders out there. This narrative just sticks because of how often he ends up chipping in on the offensive side.

He ain't no good ol' Canadian boy, that's for sure.

I said the Sharks got slaughtered when the trade was announced and now it looks like I was right.

Funny enough, this trade didn't benefit the Sharks much at all and they lose a lottery pick. I can't believe Erik Karlsson declined that quick.

I didn't post in this topic either when the trade was announced so I can say that I was right too.

Possibly ... it could end up being a win-win. If San Jose's 1st wins the lottery remember that it might have ended up differently if they hadn't made this trade ... they would have ranked different in the standings and it probably wouldn't still be 1st.

Remember the Sens were a non playoff team even with Karlsson, Stone and Duchene. For one year of Karlsson it was a great trade for Ottawa. Then the Sharks (who were in the Cup final with Karlsson) compounded a the problem by overpaying Karlsson and giving up those conditional picks for Karlsson. Then with Covid making a flat cap, a Sharks lose even more, since now they a have a whole lotta overpaid aging players on long term contracts.

Winner? Loser? This is a no brainer.

What is the condition? If Melnyk leaves they get the picks and this clownshow can finally end?

That Sharks Blue Line now. Sweet Jesus!

Hard to say that Sharks aren't the CLEAR winners here haha.

Karlsson is still worth multiple wins above replacement and is a top-15 defender in the league. He's not a god, but he's extremely good. The team around him stinks.

So no, I won't.

Whoever voted fair deal has to be a delusional Sens fan.

It's quite a lot of fun to go through the past trade reactions and look at how wrong people were lol.

Absolutely no one expected the Sharks to crash and burn like they did in 19-20. They were 2 games away from the Stanley Cup finals the year prior. Everything just feel apart at the worst possible team.

Never mind the trade, the Sharks compounded the problem by signing him to to a 10.5m X 7 contract. Gee, I know the Leafs can criticized for having their top 4 making 40.5, but the Sharks have
34.5m in long contracts in aging declining players.

I mean, the Leafs are paying big money for players performing at an elite level (and 3 out of the 4 are in their early 20's). So one can defend the Leafs payment of the big four, but yeah, the Sharks big contracts are all on aging players who have declined rapidly. Not a good look.
