Massive package for Jacob Trouba

Team: 2019-20 Buffalo Sabres
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 16, 2018
Published: Sep. 16, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
If WPG resorts to moving Trouba for pieces I think this is more than fair:
- Young NHL 4/5 Dman in McCabe
- Middle 1st Round pick in a deep draft
- I expect Thompson to stick with Buffalo and pot 15G as a middle 6 power forward, so he is an NHL lock at this point
- Another 2nd Round pick

Winnipeg fills two roster spots and adds a prospect that should be NHL ready within 2 seasons.

WPG fans let me know what you think.
-------------------
Also Sign Skinner, we have the cap and its very likely he and Jack tear it up this season.

don't know why people think trouba has to be traded. what makes you think trouba is going to resign with sabres. then there is awkward procedure of having trouba playing for the jets and being told you can negotiate with the sabres. far too complicated.

He’s easily one of the most traded players on this board for a reason.... the cap just doesn’t look like it will work out

Because he wants out of Winnipeg and will leave as soon as he becomes a UFA. They will trade him at some point rather than let him walk for nothing.

you've given the worse reasons for the trade. yes he wants out of winnipeg. but jets control him for two years. if keeping him makes the jets in a better position to win maybe even to win the cup they keep him. if you haven't noticed teams trade for upcoming ufa knowing full well, players will walk for nothing at seasons end. its a crazy obsession some fans have that ufas get traded. it just not factually correct. dozens of players will be ufas next summer. they all don't get traded. where would they be traded too if the reasoning is you can't have ufas and let them walk for nothing.
trouba certainly isn't signing long term with the sabres either, you can almost be assured of that, so why would the sabres even think of making this trade.

Didn’t say they would. I just answered your previous question.

Most marketable UFAs get traded in their last year. Cup contenders tend to hold onto them. Jets have a valuable commodity who is not happy there, is not going to sign long term, is just biding his time. They will get as much out of him as they can and then trade him to replenish. Just business.

Fans are over reactionary by nature. They see an issue like this and want it fixed yesterday. No patience. Jets are not in any hurry to make the move but they will make it eventually. Won’t be this year unless he becomes a problem in the locker room.

If they’re willing to pay his ask, why wouldn’t he sign long term?

trouba has lot millions of dollars so far by not signing long term. his first rfa contract. his delay in reporting to the jets without a contract. he's has this arbitration year and next year is his last before being a ufa.
trouba is one player that not agreed to long term deals, so he can get free agency. if the offer was for his personal choice of playing in florida (well documented) yea he might accept it, but the sabres? he can wait.

That statement "most marketable UFAs get traded in their last year" is not true. non playoff teams trade upcoming ufas but not from playoff contenders. playoff contenders are the ones acquiring upcoming ufas.
trouba might be traded but only for similar immediate help for the cup hopeful jets, but not because he is a upcoming ufa. jets are a strange situation next year. cup hopefuls but need cap space. rhd myers is a ufa and one year left at about 5.75m rhd trouba.
here's a suggestion. sign myers that helps your rhd. trade trouba and some not some good cap like little or perrault to the same team. return may not be great but you got the cap space for laine, connor and more.

by all reports there is not a locker room problem with trouba at all. he's a big boy, when he signed his contract with the jets he knew he was under their control for at least seven years.

Guess you missed the part where I said cup contenders hang onto theirs. And the locker room problem was an if scenario not that he was. Maybe you read it to quickly. ?
