Karlsson > Tavares though

Could be true. Will be interesting to see what he can do with an actual offence around him this season though. If he goes out an puts up 95-100 pts, does that make the Karlsson vs. Tavares question a little more level? I think I'd rather a true franchise #1 C than franchise/top pairing dman, but that's just me.

Side note: I'm not talking about the trade, just comparing the Tavares/Karlsson straight up.

Top 1D > Top 8 C. Also I know everyone has differing opinions, but I think a number one D is way more important than a number 1 centre, especially a right shot D. There are just so many more top centres in the league than there are Top Dmen.

How is this trade even close? Karlson is better than Tavares alone and you included Pavelski and a 1st rounder.

laugh Karlsson puts up as many points as a D man, Then Tavares does as a Centerman. No way that's even close

That's fair. I just look at someone like Carolina though, who have all of the defence in the world, but they aren't competitive because they don't have that true #1 C. Having a sieve in nets probably doesn't help either though.

Karlsson is pretty great to watch though.

Value aside (which isn’t even close) Tavares has a full NMC and San Jose offered him more money in ufa and he decided to go to Toronto. I don’t see him waiving....

Exactly he wanted to go home and play for his hometown Leafs, He'd never waive for San Jose any ways. And i'm not convinced that Karlsson would sign long term with the Leafs any ways. Pretty much sounds like he wants to play in the US right now.

Because Tavares is signed for 7 years, Karlsson and Pavelski just one year each. Term has meaning.

Never ends well when the caption is “blockbuster” and there’s a leafs logo beside it

Usually any logo beside it.... maybe the leafs logo because we just put this team together exactly how we want it and half of the leafs fans just want to reBurke this team lol

Maybe It would be a 2nd or 3rd Rounder instead of a first

That may be true that their are many more top centers then dmen around the league but the reality is the teams that have recently won championships over the past several years were absolutely stacked at center and the wings. Pittsburgh, Washington, and even LA who were stacked at Center with Kopitar, Jeff Carter, and Mike Richards all won with deep center cores. Then you have teams like Carolina, St.Louis, Calgary, and Minnesota who all have great D cores and have either missed or did not make the post-season over the last several years. I actually think defense is the least important position now because the game has changed. Just stacking the blue line alone does not win championships since defense is a 5 man team game. Also need an elite level goaltender to win as well.
