Is the question who you would put in a lineup for a game tonight? Who you would pick in an expansion draft? Essentially, are you asking who's better for a team today or who's a better asset for an organization?
Trouba
-Age: 24
-Contract: 1 year at $5.5/yr (RFA)
Ellis
-Age: 27
-Contract: 1 year at $2.5m and then 8 years at $6.25/yr (UFA)

Regardless, Ellis is the best. He'd have easily received $8M AAV on the open market as a UFA next summer had he not signed an extension with Nashville. Ellis is already a top 20 Defenseman in my opinion, and he's still getting better at age 27.
I'd probably have to take Dumba 2nd. His offensive ceiling is definitely higher than that of Trouba.
Playing wise....Doughty hands down. But starting next 11m cap hit. Value wise maybe 6.5m is Ellis best, then 4.5m difference can get you another pretty good player.

I'd go with early 70's Bobby Orr, personally. *wink*
