Short term, not more than $4 million a season. Longer term he's probably worth Hornqvist money. Any long term deal between $4.8 and $5.2 million is reasonable.

All depends on how he does this season. If he lights it up and gets 70 points he’ll get paid, if he only has 50 he won’t. If (for arguments sake) he was CURRENTLY an RFA I’d expect an offer around 5 mil long term

It's not so much the cost but the length of the deal. Everyone knows the CBA is coming. They will fight to lower the age, giving players more leverage. That will drive up costs.

Folks shouldn't be worried "if a he asks too much." He's a RFA. The question is what is he worth. If you're a Pens fan you hope he has a great season and is worth a lot. Fortunately the Pens do have expiring contract ins Brassard and Hagelin which give them some cap flexibility.

Saad got $6M per in his trade and sign from Columbus. Maybe Jake gives his team a hometown discount at $5M/, maybe not.

"Meh" regular season numbers...hes just starting his 3rd year. No he cant carry a line, but playing with Sid all year...min 60pts probably 70. I think we offer him 5.5X6 or something, because if we do like a 2-3 year bridge, and he does perform well 70+, hes gonna be asking for 8MIN at the end of it. that is not what we want.
